Legend of Zelda is by far one of the games that changes the most with each new addition to the series. We have seen many great changes to the graphics engine used in each Zelda game. I personally liked the visuals that was created with twilight princess's realistic graphics engine, it was the first game to use this and the last game to come out on the gamecube and it looked SO good when it came out, and still does (I'm planning on replaying it sometime soon). Though, Many people dislike the change from graphics engine to graphics engine. After Ocarina of time and Majoras mask came out, people thought that was how the new Zelda game would look. Also, at E3 there was a tech demo shown that JUMP TO NEXT PARAGRAPH TO AVOID TWILIGHT PRINCESS SPOILERS! Had many components of link and ganondorfs fight from twilight princess, showing that part where they try to overpower each other with their swords.
This tech demo looked surprisingly similar to ocarina of time, though there were some aesthetic differences. Then though, Eiji Aonuma, one of the main developers of the series and is sometimes referred to as the bane of the series for this, suggested that they cell shade the next Zelda game as a way to introduce new ideas to the series. That was when-using cell shading-we got wind waker. While some say the graphics look- and I quote- "childish and stupid", I really enjoyed them, if they were to do a wind waker with twilight princess graphic engine, I don't think it would-for lack of a better word-work.
Next of all, we have the cell shading in skyward sword, I have not actually played skyward sword but, as a dedicated Zelda fan and article writer- I have done my research on this game. Skyward sword uses a different graphics engine than wind waker, using the power of the wii to both use cell shading and make those stunning visuals I talked about with twilight princess. The only thing I see wrong with it though, is that the way the enemies look doesn't really blend with the look of the game. When you see an enemy-at least for me- it looks a little out of place. And yeah, I know some of you don't see this, but please, your reading this article for my opinions and facts, so don't yell at my opinions and facts.
And now, the graphics engine in ocarina of time and majoras mask. Ocarina of times engine I can confidently say we wont see again, I can honestly say that we have evolved our systems too much to use the engine in it effectively. I do believe though, that we can use some components of Majora's mask. The environment, as ive said before, sets the mood SO well for that game. It creates and ominous feeling that we are supposed to feel when playing a game like that. If the Zelda team ever needs to create that feeling, I know where they should look.
Which was your favorite graphics engine, feel free to tell me and the other vizzed users in the comments. Well that about finishes up this article, thanks for reading 545 words of what i had to say.
