I'm a big scary global so I don't know if I'm allowed in here, but I'm coming in anyway!!

Anyway this thread interests me because just recently, a member greeted me on my profile and I responded, and he was super baffled that I was interested in chatting with him. It hadn't occured to me that members might be afraid of me, or mods in general, since I think the group we have now is pretty friendly and personable. But I told this member that getting to know the members is one of the best parts of the job, and I stick by it. I'd seen him post around and never had any issue with him, but we talked a bit and he's a genuinely cool kid. It sucks that someone would be scared of me, because I feel like I'm a pretty mellow person and I like to hang out and talk as much as the rest of you. Sometimes I have to close threads or remind members not to spam, but I don't do it out of a personal vendetta or a deep, angry loathing. It's just to keep the peace so everyone can enjoy the board and not have to worry about being pestered or having their threads spammed.

I know that I have a lot of people who dislike me for closing their threads, which is a shame. I don't target people, and it's never, ever, personal. Mods here, myself included, take great efforts in remaining objective and impartial so that we don't take sides and to avoid members being treated unfairly. So, please try to cut us all some slack. When I joined, a was a bit wary of mods just because this place is stricter than most forums I've been to, but it has to be due to the sheer volumes of people here. So for me to say that I don't understand why anyone would be scared of the mods is a lie, as they are always around and doing their jobs, and that can be intimidating. HOWEVER, they're all here for you guys. Our job is to make this place more fun and easier to hang out in. If we let dupes or spammy topics go, this place would be so bogged down, we'd lose members and great threads in all the mess. Being scared of us is like being scared of the police. We're only here to help you. Our job is literally to make your experience here safe and pleasant.

Furthermore, if several different mods have been getting on your case for things, you need to be more insightful. Perhaps if you're getting a bunch of threads closed or being punished for spam, it's actually because you have a lot to learn as a member and need to learn the rules, rather than the alternative that all mods are mean and nasty and blah blah blah. ; ]

KG : Some people are intimidated by those with higher statuses by default. I'm not sure why, but it seems like some people just get that way without every getting to know or see the person first. It might be a feeling of inferiority or who knows what, but I've seen it happen at pretty much every forum I've ever been to.

GameBoy1023 : I doubt there's anything a mod can do that can "ruin your life". Seriously... a person miles away from you behind a computer screen can't do anything to directly effect your life. Unless you consider being told not to do something that's against the rules somehow ruining your life, I don't really see how you could make this claim :x

People have to remember that users over the internet, communicating in text, can't really hurt you in any real way. They can't do anything to you directly. They can type words at you... big deal... that's so scary~

If everyone just relaxes and enjoys the community, things'll be fine.

I honestly do not see a need to be scared of mods. In fact, I actually judge them a little more harshly than other users when it comes to forum etiquette and rules, as they are supposed to be upholders of both.

Mods are similar to police, except here, you do not have to pay a fine for wrong doings, and generally will not get in trouble for honest mistakes. They are also the ones supposed to be setting a good example. Now the police, in my opinion, tend to do a terrible job in that, but the mods here generally follow through.

I only get rather annoyed when, for example, I see a mod scolding a user in one thread for sandwich posting, yet I see them AND another mod sandwich posting in another thread. Or sometimes I feel there may be one ore two mods out there that are quite discourteous in their writing when this is meant to be a friendly place of discussion, but thankfully, these events are far and few between. It is much easier to recall the bad actions of people than the good, thus why these events stick out in my mind

I can understand why a new user could be frightened of them at first; they see all these rules they are not used to, or in the habit of not reading the rules and break them without realizing. Once you get a handle on what flies here, though, one can realize the mods really are not so mean and nasty.

No, I'm not afraid. I'm friends with the mods, and have been one twice here, Nya~.

Honestly there is no reason to be afraid of any of the MODS. They are only working hard to keep this site to where it needs to be. Having been a former mod myself, it's a tough job with a lot of responsibilities.

Sure some MODS in the past might have been able to improve in one area or another but they all share one thing. They LOVE VIZZED and want it to be the best site it can be.

Usually the only people that don't like the MODS as a whole are ones that have had run-ins because they were spamming up the forums or breaking the rules in some other fashion...just sayin

You should be afraid, they eat babys, iv seen it. The wanting to help vizzed thing is an elaborate front.

When you think about it the mods are like a the police they help you, protect you, remove the bad people, and when your doing something wrong there the last people you want to see.

servbot128:  A lot of people distrust the police, and not always because they're bad guys who do bad things. Just saying.

I don't fear the mods. Some of them I respect, some of them I'm not fond of-I've been seeing mostly good, solid modding on this site with only a few examples that I wasn't impressed with, but that's pretty normal, especially in a site this size and with this many active users.

I figure the worst they can do is ban me. That would kind of suck, since I do like this forum, but since I try to follow the rules and be polite, so I don't fret about it. Most of the time you just have to do your best to be a good person and you'll be fine. And if that becomes not enough, then this would probably be a site I wouldn't bother with anyway.

We did not have a fear of mods, they are friendly and alert you if your error you made ​​to avoid a ban

In all honesty, not really, no.

The only thing I fear doing is making them lose their trust in me, or end up getting on the bad side of some good mods. Though, it's a bit unlikely, considering I don't do stuff too bad around here, and most of the mods are my friends on here.

It also helps that I've been a mod twice, despite failing both times, Nya~. :V

If you are scared of the mods, you've probably done something wrong, such as spamming, re-registering, or anything else against the rules.

Wow, this thread sure is interesting. I was about to come in here, expecting a thread mostly full of spammers, but I'm glad to see that nearly everybody here has sort of a respect for the moderators. And just so you all know,

If you ever have a problem with a moderator, let me or David know

If you feel like you're being harassed by someone, tell us, and we'll look into it, because it has happened in the past. But things you need to remember when you do that: We hand select our moderators very carefully, and they are all fully aware of the rules of the site. So when you come to us, you need to have your case ready to go. Copy links to posts and threads where you were harassed. Take screenshots of offending profile comments. Make sure that you have some proof, because without any, we're likely going to side with the person we know and trust.

Anyway, it's interesting, I hadn't thought of it in years, but I remember being sort of intimidated by the moderators and (back then we called them) Super Mods back when I was just starting out on forums. I became friends with the mods everywhere I went, and sort of forgot about that feeling. Here I've been trying to maintain this professional air about me, but maybe that's the wrong attitude. Maybe I should try to be more personable...

I ain't scared of no mods mostly because I'm friends with most and I've been a mod myself. ;P

Oh yeah, I think I should mention that if you have a jersey, you better believe we'll be on you like ugly on a gorilla. We like to make sure the Tour de Vizzed is fun and free of spam, so the winners get checked and double checked to make sure they're playing fair.
