I tried writing a review for this about 30 days ago, but I accidentally hit a button that made it go to my last page, and everything got deleted with no way to get it all back (it had 800+ words ) I'm going to try writing it again, now. Here we go: Mother 3 is an amazing game. Everything is in sync. The plot keeps you on your toes, The music flows beautifully, and the graphics keep your eyes glued to the screen. It's hard at sometimes, and easy sometimes. What I'm saying is that it is perfect! Graphics: 9 These graphics are great! I love the cut scenes in this game because the special effects are awesome! The island looks amazing in cut scenes. The terrain and backgrounds are also great. I especially like the graphics on Drago Plateau and in New Pork City. You even look different when you have a side-affect, like nausea. The residents of Tazmily Village also are made good. The paintings and furniture in the houses also look great. I love how Itoi took the time to customize the paintings, rather than making them look the same. The maps really could use some work, though. You can't really tell where some things are. There is one more thing that makes the graphics great: The battles. All enemies look different when they charge at you or when you charge at them. Rather than in Earthbound, where all of the machines just look like a little cube floating around, Itoi actually customized the looks of the enemies in this game, a huge upgrade from Earthbound! The enemies also look amazing in-battle. The backgrounds may not look as interesting as Earthbound's, but the enemies look better. Anyways , these graphics are great. I give the graphics a Sound: 10 Who couldn't love the sounds in this game? There is not one song or sound in this game that has disappointed me. The sounds are simply perfect! Some of my personal favorites from this game are the Theme of Love, Serious, Natural Killer Cyborg, and Porky's Pokies. You just can't beat the sound in this game. The sound at the beginning causes you to stare at the screen, waiting to see where the cut scene leads you. The sound always matches perfectly with what's going on. For example, when you wake up, the music is soothing. When something is happy, happy music plays. When something is sad, sad music plays. Also, the music matches up with the place you are in. In the forest, the music is fast and sort of scary. In Tazmily Village, the music is nice and soothing. In New Pork City, the music is loud and exciting. The music while battling is one of the best things about the music, though. It matches with the enemy. Some of the songs are "Piggy Guys", "Hustle for Pride", "intense guys", "troublesome guys", and "Serious" (most of the battle songs have "guys" at the end). There's also another thing with the battle music. You can combo, unlike in Earthbound. And do you know what is so cool about doing combos? Well, the only way to combo is to press A with the beat of the music. That is such a creative, fun, and challenging way to combo. I like it a lot more than random combos. Also, you combo with musical instruments. Your instrument plays three different melodies (doing a triple note combo plays three different melodies. Doing a six note combo plays three melodies twice, and so on. I think that there are nine melodies for each instrument, and they are put into groups of threes) along with the rhythm of the song, making an amazing harmony. All of the controllable characters have different instruments. For example, Lucas's is a keytar, Claus's is a sitar, Duster's is a Bass, Salsa's is a synthesizer, Flint's is a saxophone, and so on. The biggest combo you can get is a 16 note combo. It's challenging to master, and the combos help many times in the game. Anyway, I just LOVE the music. If you play the game, you would love it too. The music is amazing, and definitely deserving of a 10. Addictiveness: 8 This game is pretty addicting. There are many easter eggs and things to find out. One of those easter eggs is if you battle every enemy, and attack every single enemy from behind and from the front at least once, something happens. I'm sorry, I haven't done it yet, so I don't know what happens XD. Anyways, this game is very addicting. I'm actually doing a walkthrough on it right now. You can find it on the game's page or on my youtube profile: http://www.youtube.com/user/TheeBigDerp/videos?view=0&flow=grid . You will be very likely to play this game again, and I give it's addictiveness an 8. Depth: 9 Honestly, this game probably wouldn't take any longer than a month to complete (if you play about an hour a day). But, it's a whole 'nother story if you want to find the easter eggs and do everything. Have you ever tried to talk to every single person in an RPG? Well, it takes a lot of time. You should try it, though. Itoi has a good sense of humor. Also, it takes a VERY long time to get the 1/128 items from enemies (though I once got one on my third try ). There's also some more easter eggs, like the one I listed in "addictiveness" it would take a while to do that easter egg, because some enemies are hard to find. You could try to challenge yourself to do a goal, like getting flint to level, say, 30 before defeating the drago. Trying to master 16 hit combos is fun, but hard, and you should try it. In this game, you can press F2 to save your state anywhere in-game and F4 to load it, so if there's a Yes or No question, you could try both answers and see the responses without having to take 20 minutes to go to your old save point and having to get all the way there. This game has a lot of stuff to do, pretty much! The Depth is a 9, without a doubt. Difficulty: 7 This game's difficulty varies. It can be hard sometimes, and easy sometimes. Bosses can get very annoying. You may even have to just keep on beating up normal enemies just to gain levels! It's mostly easy, though. You might get stuck at some parts. I admit, I had to use a walk-through at times. I'd like to see you try without using a walkthrough... The Jealous Bass is one of the hardest bosses, along with some others that I won't spoil. The last boss is also very hard. Many parts in this game are easy. some parts you just have to walk around and talk to people, and not battle anything! The enemies can be hard near the end. It's not the difficulty that makes the game fun, it's the story. I would give the difficulty a 6 1/2, but it won't let me, so I give the difficulty a 6. Story: 10 Finally, we come to the story of this game. The story of this game is what made it my favorite, along with the music. The story is...amazing. It keeps you on your toes, it excites you, it makes you happy, and it makes you said. Itoi made Mother 3 very deep, unlike all of the other games in the "Mother" series. You really connect to the characters and their story in this game. I just love the story. The game is pretty much about the crybaby Lucas, The energetic Claus, who is Lucas's older twin, Princess Kumatora of Osohe Castle, Duster the Thief Of Justice, Boney, who is Lucas's dog, Flint, the respected cowboy of Tazmily Village and father to Lucas and Claus, Hinawa, who is the wife of Flint and loving mother of Lucas and Claus, and Salsa the Monkey. These characters all connect to each other somehow. In the beginning, you get to name Lucas, Claus, Hinawa, Boney, and Flint! Oh, you can name your favorite thing and food, too! We go to a cut scene with epic music, taking a look at the Nowhere islands. The cut scene ends at Alec's House, where we find that Claus is knocking at Lucas's door, telling him that the Drago's are next door and that he has to wake up to play. Lucas tiredly wakes up and goes downstairs (you can ram Hinawa for some nut bread!). He tries to go outside, but Hinawa tells him to change out of his jammies. If you decline, she will tell you that you can just stay inside for the rest of your life, so you basically have to say yes. Once he changes, he goes outside to a sunny Tazmily Village, with happy, fun music playing. Lucas goes next door to the Dragos, and, WOAH! The dragos are actual dinosaurs!!! He talks to Claus, who excitedly tells him to try ramming a drago! Alec comes by to explain to Lucas that he needs to imagine a thing called a "b button" in his head. He needs to hold that "b button" and release it to ram. Here you can try ramming into every drago to get different reactions. You can also try ramming into Claus and Alec! Once you're done ramming, talk to Claus and a mole cricket will appear! The mole cricket challenges you to a fight. You whoop his butt, and he says that he will meet you at the mole cricket stadium...bro. Hinawa comes by saying that she stepped on a mole cricket, and hopes that it isn't hurt. She says that your favorite food is ready, and they rush inside to eat lunch. Alec explains that frogs are what you save with, and then goes inside to eat. Lucas, Claus, and Hinawa have a brief conversation. Hinawa goes outside to release a letter to her husband, Flint, saying that she hoped that he would've came with her and the kids. She releases the letter and walks down the porch when a mysterious flying object flies overhead playing a menacing tune...The rest you will have to play to find out yourself. Anyway, the story is great. Itoi has a great sense of humor, so he throws in many funny things that will have you laughing. The story is amazing. You really should play this game and see it for yourself. I definitely give this game's story a 10 Other Improved things There are some more things improved from earthbound. You actually know the people's names in Tazmily Village, rather than it just saying "man" or "woman" or "guy". Also, the new combo thing is cool. You can also dash now so you don't walk as slow. There are also new special skills, like duster's wall staples and flint's Power Smash. There are also new items like the new year eve's bomb that lowers an enemies HP down to 1. Also, a certain place and character returns from the other game! Wrap things up Altogether, this game is my third favorite game (minecraft and need for speed most wanted are my second and first), but it is my favorite game for a handheld console. The story is amazing, the music is beautiful, The graphics are eye-popping, it is addicting, and has a lot of depth. The story is so deep. This game is a HUGE improvement from Earthbound and Mother 1, and I think that it is better than most GBA games ( I said most, not all.). I would recommend that anybody and everybody should play this game, and any other game in the "mother" series, as it is an amazing series. If you play it you will not be disappointed. Trust me. ~Popeye116 Local Moderators: Please Close this. I will be putting it on another forum Mother 3 is an amazing game. Everything is in sync.
