Personally, I feel Sonic 2 Heroes is my favorite, primarily because it took my favorite of the classics and added with knuckles and tails, whihc can make levels like Oil Ocean Zone a breeze.

Absolutely Sonic Megamix beta 4.0 nothing even begins to compare to this hack. With 5 playable characters, 2 modes to play in, super forms for every character, 6 redone zones plans for the new starlight zone and for time trial and goast this hack is epic.

I'm gonna go with Bombchu Link here and say Sonic Megamix too. In fact, it was even good to the point that it became almost infamous for tricking eBay buyers into thinking it was in fact a real Sonic game, only to be more or less disappointed by the fact that it wasn't (Depends on the player I guess).

But really, for anyone who actually does know their Sonic history, it's pretty obvious it'd be a fake when they go to buy it, Nya~... (coughbecauseofshadowandmoderncharacterspritescough)

I do like Sonic Classic Heroes because it takes what Sonic 3 & Knuckles (the best Genesis Sonic game there is) gave to the series and adds that premise to the first two Sonic games. This makes them so much more interesting. Though even moreso than S3&K because in Classic Heroes, you can play as all 3 at once. If Sonic Heroes actually played more like this, it wouldn't have been such a terrible game >.>

I just wish that Sonic Classic Heroes were extended to include the Sonic 3 and even S&K stages. Imagine if you could have ALL of the Genesis Sonic levels all in a single ROM with the ability to seamlessly switch between playing Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles... that would be unbelievably cool.

Haven't had a chance to give Megamix a try yet, but I will eventually.

Probably going to have to say Tails in Sonic 1, just because Tails's attributes fit so well in with Sonic 1, and that the hack was very well put together, and Tails perfectly mimics his Sonic 3 self.

For me, it's a tie between Sonic Erazor for its fast-paced action gameplay, Sonic Classic Heroes for the general idea and how easy some parts become, and Stella the Cat for the cuteness of the replacing character in general. Sonic Megamix has become kind of annoying for me. Either I'm playing the wrong version or I suck at the hacked Marble zone (don't remember the name of the hacked one).
