Hey, so it's Earthbound Tw--I mean Mother 3...? Let me explain. In the Japanese release of the games the game was called Mother. So the reason why this is only called Mother 3 is? Well, get this. It didn't get a US release, which is kind of a shame since this is a really good game. Thankfully, the Mother/Earthbound fans have created this English translation for everyone to play. So, let's dive right into Mother 3.
Graphics: 10
This game is very beautifully crafted with great looks and detail, similar to Earthbound. I can't say a whole lot about it, it's almost exactly like Earthbound's art style, which is also very beautiful.
Sound: 10
The music is once again very catchy and memorable, with sad, frantic, dark, or possibly foreshadowing a bossfight, along with some upbeat happy pieces that are very nice, like Saturn Valley.
Addictiveness: 10
The addictive nature of the game is back. You'll later figure out that you can get back and front sprites of enemies, which show up in the Battle Memory. (You get it later in the game.) Getting these is part of getting a 100% clearance, and some can be easily missed. But aside from that, Mother 3 is still an RPG that I continue playing along with Earthbound.
Story: 9
At first glance, the game seems to have no relevance to the past events of Mother 1 and 2. (Although some people look slightly similar, like Bateau, who looks like Picky.) You and your family live in Tazmily village, on Nowhere Islands, two islands with one mountain on each island surrounded by endless water. However, much later in the story, you'll see some pieces starting to come together from the ending of Earthbound.
Depth: 10
The story is very sad at some times, but the story continues to make you wonder what's going to happen next. The characters are very detailed, and I think that I fail with words to try to describe them. Now, I should explain some of the characters so you can understand how the story is so deep at times.
Lucas: Lucas is a gentle, kind boy. Though is kind of a crybaby, he is honest and loves his family. He is the younger twin of the family.
Claus: Claus is an energetic boy, who is very courageous. He is the older twin of the family.
Flint: Flint is the father of the twins Lucas and Claus and husband of Hinawa. Though you never really see his face behind his hat, this could be a foreshadow that Flint could possibly be...
Hinawa: The loving mother of the twins and wife of Flint. She acts a guardian to help Lucas and Claus when she can.
Duster: Duster is Wess' son. He has been trained to be a thief, and can use the Wall Staple, to make a path up scalable walls.
Kumatora: Kumatora is your only permanent female party member. Unlike Ana and Paula who were both stereotypical girls, Kumatora is a tomboy. (And one of my favorite Mother characters.) She can use PSI to fight her opponents.
Difficulty: 6
The game has easy and tough situations. There are some hidden optional bosses that can give good items, but prepare for a fight of your life, as they are hard. One boss, the Steel Mechorilla, be prepared, as it is no joke. Other than that, It's slightly hard but still maintaining the difficulty.
Overall: 9.5
Mother 3 is a very great game, but I just wish we could have an official US release, and as far as I know, it has been announced no more Mother games are going to be made. But, that's not entirely true, I suppose. There's a fanmade Mother 4 being made. So, will this final add-on to the Mother series go on to further generations of gaming greatness, or will it be the one that ends the franchise from further sequels? We can only pray from the bottom of our hearts. Hey, so it's Earthbound Tw--I mean Mother 3...? Let me explain. In the Japanese release of the games the game was called Mother.
