Gorf was an arcade game released in early 80s and it had more screens than most arcade games. It got ported to the Atari 2600 and CBS electronics did an okay job on this port.

GAMEPLAY C+: Gorf is quite fun to play. Like any space ship shooter, you destroy little aliens. There are a couple of problems though that prevent the gameplay from even being B material. First off, you can't shoot multiple bullets. That's okay but the bad things is that if you try to shoot a second bullet while one is in the air. The one that's already out will cancel itself. That will get annoying over time. Another problem is how suspicious the collision detection is. Despite these problems, Gorf is a fun exciting spaceship shooter.

GRAPHICS B-: As colorful as the graphics are, the game is quite good in the graphics department. However there is quite a bit flicker in the sprites. It looks terrible, but it's not as bad as some other flicker issues in other Atari 2600 games. So this game looks decent.

SOUND B: The sound effects are quite good. The explosions sound pretty good. There's really not much to say here.

ADDICTIVENESS A-: Gorf is quite an addicting game. After you beat the 4 stages the game loops until you lose all your lives. So like many Atari 2600 games, its good for beating highscores.

DEPTH A: There are 4 stages in this game. That is quite a bit because most Atari 2600 games only have 1 or 2 stages. Each stage is unique and special in its own way. If you want to know what they are like, read on. If you don't then just read the next section. Stage 1 is Space Invaders style. You shoot a horde of aliens and you have to shoot them all before they reach the bottom of the screen. Stage 2 is where you have to shoot a group of aliens. 1 alien zooms down and will try to kill while another one is trying to kill you with its super fast lazer. Stage 3 is interesting. There is a circle in the center of the screen where aliens come in and you have to keep shooting the aliens that keep coming towards you. Stage 4 is simple, you have to destroy a huge ship above you and after that a huge explosion of colors fill the screen.

DIFFICULTY MEDIUM: The difficulty is fair. The game is not to hard, like all Atari games, the difficulty gets higher as you play the game.

I applaud you on another wonderful review. I actually got the arcade unit to it thanks to my grandpa on my father's side of the family and used to spend hours on that game.
