Gangnam Style ( 강남스타일 ) is a K-POP Music Video that was performed by the South Korean rapper known as "PSY".
Unbelievably... It became the number three most watched video on YouTube, climbing to over half a BILLION views in just four months.
Since its release on July 15, there have been parodies performed by millions of people, some of the more notable being The Oregon Duck, the North Korean government, and the midshipmen from the United States Naval Academy. A few exceptional individuals who have done parodies are civil rights activist John Lewis, the mayor of Jerusalem, and Eric Shmidt (Google's executive chairman).The Gangnam Style dance (A comedial dance that looks like one is riding a horse) has gone extremely viral, spreading to television on Samsung commercials, the Ellen DeGeneres show, and Saturday Night Live.

Gangnam Style is actually a neologism. There is a district in Seoul, South Korea, called the Gangnam District. Usually, people in this district are viewed as trendy, or classy. The song is referring to this supposed lifestyle as a sort of twisted joke. As PSY said himself when interviewed:

 "People who are actually from Gangnam never proclaim that they are—it's only the posers and wannabes that put on these airs and say that they are 'Gangnam Style' - so this song is actually poking fun at those kinds of people who are trying so hard to be something that they're not."

As for my personal thoughts, the song itself is funny, but the song is part of the "Rap" genre, so it often gives first-time listeners a misconception of what K-POP really is.
Other than that, it's funny.
And it sort of has a hidden meaning.
So yeah.

This song is amazing. The video is better. It's well written and well made.

However, it's only more proof that Americans don't care about lyrics in a song.

After reading those lyrics, I'm even less interested in ever watching it.

It's a bit late to post about this video but I listened to it many times.

The Gangnam Style song is annoying. I don't get why people like it. But, like people said, now the Harlem Shake is the next, but way less viewed "next big video". But it's even worse. It makes Gangnam Style look like the best song ever. It makes me wonder what is with society these days.

After reading the English lyrics posted in this thread, I'm even more confused about why PSY is dancing like he's riding a horse.

It's just over-rated nonsense now.

I really never hope to see anybody do the "Gag man stile" dance at a party any time soon because that would be shameful.
