glitch at mt crenels base?any help?

hey guys, so im in the cave on the mt crenels base mape, the one where you blow the wall up to enter, then kill two bats and then use a mushroom to cross a gap,. its just i cant cross the gap, i always fall. there is no more space in the cave to back up for more stretch and i have read a walkthrough that dosnt mention anything about it other than using it normally? any help on the idea? this is a great game and i cant progress. thanks in advance/
