I realize that most games made for the Atari Jaguar were terrible, or at least mediocre, but a few of them were quite good. Also, even the ones that were bad hold a certain air of mystery, and I think a lot of people are curious to try them but never get the opportunity. As an older cartridge-based console that came out before the N64 and GBA, it only seems fitting that it should be represented on the Retro Game Room, but that's just me. Does anyone else have thoughts pertaining to the system?

...I really want to try the Jaguar version of Rayman.

I remember the old Jaguar commercials on TV still... but I've never so much as SEEN one before... like not even in stores. That's a super rare system, I tell ya. You can count me as one of the really curious about the system and its games.

The big problem is: is there even a good Jaguar emulator out there? That's the key criteria for a RGR add. The system needs to have an emulator that works at least decently and is open source. I've never even heard of Jaguar emulators because the system was so obscure and unpopular, so I question how well the development of such endeavors were.

Though I'm sure SOMETHING exists. A quick Google search turns up something called "Virtual Jaguar" that was still active in its updates into this year. It's probably open source given that they provide a Linux source... but the Windows download just says binary, so who knows?

The compatibility list does cite Rayman and being compatible though, so there's hope for your wish anyway.

I seriously hope that they do this.

I'd really like to experience the terribleness of these games.

Yeah that will be nice I want to play the game that says, "Where did you learn to fly?"  (Cybermorph)

It's possible, maybe if Vizzed gets more donations....

Of course I would like to have that system in the Retro game room! It would be awesome! If we got this system in the RGR, that would be epic!

It may be possible to add the Atari Jaguar to the Retro Game Room but it depends how much file size there is for the Games.

tRIUNE : What do you think of this idea?

ROM sizes look as small as any other cartridge system. Here are the numbers according to a website: (given it's just listed on a page and I don't actually have the files, I can't tell you if this is zipped or unzipped)

Alien vs Predator - 2.97mb
Atari Karts - 3.73mb
Bubsy - Fractured Furry Tails - 1.92mb
Cybermorph - 1.62mb
Doom - Evil Unleashed - 2.52mb
Rayman - 3.27mb

Those are just some quick examples of the larger games I've seen through skimming this site. Nothing really seems to exceed 3.5 megs

Alien vs. Predator is another game I was really curious about, so I'm glad to see that the file size is so small.

SuperGameBoy1 : Although I can add any game to the RGR for a system we already have, it's not my call if systems are added to the RGR. Davideo7 has to pay the plugin developer, tom760, for updates to the RGR Plugin.

It would be his decision.

Sun-Wukong : I disagree, I actually thought the system was very underrated and there were more good games than what most people give it credit for. I had an Atari Jaguar when I was younger with quite a few games and there were plenty of games that I enjoyed and probably still would enjoy today.

I actually do own quite a few Jaguar games currently so the process of obtaining many physical copies is already done. The only thing stopping me from getting it added right now is money. It'd cost probably $300-400 for me to have Atari Jaguar added to the RGR Plugin and my budget has been pretty low lately ever since Google suspended ads on vizzed.

Bit of an honor to have you personally respond to my thread, David.

What you actually said in your post is kind of a drag, though. Sadly, I don't really have any money to donate, but I'm glad to hear that there's interest in adding the system from the inside as well. Oh, and . . . would one of those games you already own happen to be Rayman? That'd be just swell.
