I'm not exactly sure what you mean by the poll options "Red/Rival" and "Blue" seeing as the "?Rival would factor in Blue as well but I'll have to say the hardest Champion would have to be  the Champion from the original Red, Blue, and Green for GameBoy Color. Now, pokemon is getting WAAAY too easy to beat. (I beat Black/White version in 2 hours, NO HACKS!) I long for the days of my childhood when trainers actually posed a challenge to me....

I think Red (from Gold/Silver/Crystal/HeartGold/SoulSilver) is the hardest Champion to beat because he has very high level Pokemon which are around between level 70 to level 80.

Definitely Red, I remember first playing G/S/C I got through Mt. Silver found Red and was stunned! I couldn't believe he was there, so I knew that I had to battle him after quite a few losses (considering it was my first time really battling him) I finally won. What bugs me about it though is the fact that he didn't say anything to you after his defeat. Not even a congratulations, but it was a great and heated battle and he was most certainly the hardest trainer I have ever battled in any Pokémon game.

I think we can all agree- even though he's technically not a champion- that Red is the hardest Pokemon trainer in the world. Why? BECAUSE HE'S GOT A LEVEL 88 PIKACHU FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!

I'd have to say Cynthia. Mabye her levels aren't that impressive (only up to 78) but her team is well constructed. I'm sure everything except for those weak to electric on Cynthia's team could beat Ash's Pikachu as it is unevolved. Also Milotic with recover and mirror coat.

Red would have to be the toughest. I remember playing Gold and I had beaten the game and I was searching around the Jhoto region when I found Red. Now having beaten the Champion like 50 times I assumed that I could easily beat Red. Turns out I was sadly mistaken lol .

It is Red because all of his Pokemon are levels like 80+ It is truly the hardest champion. Still, I don't think Red is not one of those champions. Besides Red, I choose Gary when you battle him the second time when his Pokemon is up to level 75.

Lost so many times against him that I actually beat Lance in Gen 2 before I beat him, it was so bad. When I finally got that kill, it was the most satisfying victory ever, and I felt like I earned it.

Red, he's hard, he's super high level, but meh, he wasn't too bad because you actually have a fresh team with you when you fight him, so he's easier than the other champions in that regard.

I'm going to say Lance because grass, fire and water all are weak against dragon types, and they are the starter choices. His choice of moves can take down any type quite easily, as well. His dragons know moves such as Blizzard, Thunderbolt, Earthquake and Outrage. So I'm going with Lance.
