It all depends on the power.. I mean if it was something diabolic that couldn't help anyone .... e.G the power to fire rockets willingly then you'd be used by the government as a deterrent to other countries....

I would barely use them as whatever you use the powers for someone will see it as evil so it will be best to keep their usage to a minimum unless they could stop something that is going on in front of me for example an attempted murder or mugging. I know some people would say this is selfish but using them regularly could cause more trouble than they would stop

Now come on....who would really admit to using them for evil?  
If I had powers I'd use them for good, but because I don't like being in a leadership position or drawing attention to myself, it'd be difficult for me to do so.  I wouldn't NOT use them though, because I'd feel guilty knowing I could have stopped something and didn't out of concern for my own shyness.
