Honestly, I don't know that I've ever had any really annoying bad habits.  The only bad habit I can re-call was that I used to correct people ALL the time (mind you, this was when I was younger).  I would interrupt people mid-speech if they made a grammatical error or a syntax error, and I would tell them what they SHOULD have said, or how they SHOULD have used the word.

I like to say it was just the teacher in me, uncontrolled.  XD  I was too young to know any better, right?

Oldschool41 :

That definitely makes sense. I know mine started because I was trying to stop chewing my nails.

jlh :

Not all non-smokers are bothered by it; I know I certainly am not. And I know quite a few more people who aren't. See, thing is - it's the people who think everything should be their way that are bothered by it. I just don't like the smoke being blown in my face, personally.

mr.keys :

Oh, yea. Sounds like I felt going down the road yesterday and I couldn't keep focus worth a damn because everything was "shiny." (I hadn't slept.) I can't stand losing focus because of something, it really annoys the crap outta me.

fishygrl888 :

That's actually a new one... I've never seen anybody chew on their hands in general though I suppose I'm not surprised.
That's a rather interesting story; I picked up my name from a book that I read in seventh grade. It was the name of one of the primary dogs. (Basically, the book was about mages but each mage had a "magehound" - a special dog capable of performing magic.)
It's strange that you can write a song about fish and be teased for it but you can draw cats all day long and that's okay. Why did you skip the "i" in girl?

omegasword4 :

Hello Omega~
I actually don't have a comment for your issue. ._.
I sympathize though; I can't stand being unable to sit still.

mr.pace :

The issue with using food as a replacement is that it does become rather unhealthy. A suggestion that was made to me recently is to use a strip of hard leather. I've considered it myself but I'd have issues with the saliva that would wind up coating it so I'd need to keep a hand towel of sorts to try it with too.

Singelli :

Definitely too young to know any better. Do you have autism, possibly? Any form of - but I was thinking of asperger's more specifically. My best friend has a habit of correcting my speech too but I want him to because I want to make it better. Although, my speech is actually pretty good. I've always been "proper." It just started to slip when I lost contact with him and living in the south too long. He gets to teach me a lot, which I know he enjoys doing. And I enjoy him teaching so it works for us both... anyhow, got off topic there. The reason I ask about the autism because it's known to cause quarks like that you're speaking of.

Ktanaqui :

Autism?  How very interesting. No one has ever asked me that before.  LOL
I do NOT have autism....it was just something I did.
Unfortunately, it caused a rift between me and my twin, and I think she holds it against me, though it was a habit I only kept through elementary school.  It became less and less common as I grew up and was chided about it time and time again.  I eventually realized that people didn't like it and it was considered rude, so by high school that habit was totally purged.  I'm almost 100% positive I didn't do it in middle school, but I can't remember middle school all that well.

My little brother, on the other hand, actually MIGHT have asperger's.  I never knew correcting people was a sign of it though.  He's been diagnosed with...*tries to remember* Pervasive Personality Development Disorder?

Something like that.  He hasn't been diagnosed with Asperger's, but I've always thought he has it.

Singelii: How old is your little brother now and when he was diagnosed with PPDD? Usually these diseases appear during adolesence (usually right after childbirth but before puberty) so if he wasn't diagnosed with asbergers when he was a child then most likely he doesn't have it no. Him correcting people might just be a personality trait or a urge to correct people when they are wrong (some people are just like that).

chewing up shirts?!?!  LOL

Oldschool41 :   Well, my brother never would have been diagnosed because my parents never took us to doctors.  It's always been clear to us that there was something wrong with him, but my parents didn't want to admit it and were in denial. The only time we EVER went to a hospital was if we were on death beds.

Which never happened.  LOL

The only reason my brother was diagnosed with the personality disorder is because during one of his violent fits, my dad called the police on him.  The police took him to the psych ward, and that's when they diagnosed him.  They wanted to keep him there, but my parents' insurance wouldn't cover it.

I think he was 15.  (it was last year I believe)

One thing I have a habit of doing is drumming with my fingers or hands on the table. I can't help it, and as a drummer well it just happens whenever I'm not really doing anything.   Some people do find it rather annoying and it's gotten to the point where I really don't notice it half the time, I have a friend who does it all the time and he doesn't realize it and we are bother drummers; I guess its a condition we all share xD

Ktanaqui : I actually have no idea why I skipped the "i"
I know in like 4th grade when my mom helped me make an Aim account we made my username "fishygrl2" But I have no idea why we skipped it
Maybe "fishygirl2" was already taken...? I'm not sure

The only other person I know that chews on their hands is my friend's uncle, and he stopped but apparently bit so hard that he still has scars

Mine would have to be that I bite my nails, but only when I'm really stressed out. And I do it without even realizing I'm doing it. Similar to Ktanaqui. I also tend to tug at my lower lip whenever I'm nervous. Sometimes I even space off when someone is talking to me, and even though I am listening, I somehow didn't catch what they said and I have to ask them to repeat themselves. It really annoys me when I do that. Haha.

Singelli :

Glad to know that I'm the first, I think. I wouldn't say that correcting people is a sign of it, exactly. More so the habit of properness. It could be extended to cover correcting people... but I wouldn't personally couldn't it a big deal.

Mother3fan5 :

I actually had that issue myself. It was rather annoying but I do not believe that I particularly destroyed any shirts that way. Just made them really, really wet. My stepdad hated it too.

Deadman9001 :

Must be something that drummers develop. I knew a few here who had that habit. Drove the teachers absolutely crazy. I can't count how many referrals (the bad kind) that they got for it.

fishygrl888 :

That makes sense. I guess it's all just wondering now. (lol) As for the biting so hard that he left scars: that sounds pretty nasty (not dirty but bad).

SunflowerGaming :

Personal warning: you want to nip that nail-biting thing in the bud. It starts as "only when really stressed" and eventually spreads to cover most emotions, if not all. As far as the spacing goes - I think my entire family does that with my little sister. She just goes on forever repeating the same things that nobody is interested in listening to - plus she never listens to any body else.

This isn't necessarily an annoying habit of my own, but one I recently (and often) have to deal with: the inability of people to follow simple instructions.

Yesterday, since I was at the doctor's appointment, I left instructions with the sub.  I saw her in the morning before I left, and I went over the instructions with her -multiple times-.  The instructions basically were: Give the kids 30 minutes to do a quiz, then click through the notes to let the kids copy them, and finally tell them when their worksheets are due.

I wanted them to take a quiz for a very important reason: I wanted to see how many of my kids could comfortably factor by now.

I even wrote the instructions down for her, step by step!

Then I came back today to find that, not only did she refuse to let my students click through the notes as I had asked, but she didn't give my students their quiz!!!

She brought my notes up on the Smart Board and said "I know you all are supposed to take a quiz, but I want to show you what else we are doing first," and then proceeded to give the kids the notes.  The problem is, I wanted the kids to take the quiz BEFORE they saw the notes, because the notes made use of the quiz problems and gave the answers to them!!!

So now I have absolutely no idea on whether or not my kids truly know how to factor unless I want to waste 30 minutes of another class, giving yet ANOTHER quiz.

What is wrong with people that can't follow simple instructions!??!  Normally I experience that from my students on an hourly basis.. but for my substitute to do that?!?!  A trained professional?!?

Ugh.

I hate when people screw things up like that. I honestly would not give the substitutes anything so important like that to do. They will almost always figure out a way to screw things up. Why? I have no idea. But the chances of getting a substitute that won't are slim to none.

Ktanaqui :  Well I agree with you, and that's specifically why I had chosen this substitute!  She had taken my class during a day in which I hadn't expected to be out, and when I came back I was impressed with her. She had filled out a form, told me which students were tardy, and made sure my students stayed on task.

I guess she only does well when she's not given instructions.  :/

Other people have a tendency to dis-agree with instructions that are given. Forever reason, giving instructions seem to make people dis-obey more .-. Wish I could figure out why :/

Whenever I am writing, I tend to put 's at the end of stuff even when I shouldn't. I tend to do it ritually by accident. It really annoys me when I proof read because I know for a fact that it should be 's instead, or just no ' at all, but I do it anyways subconsciously.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
