There are two games that have scarred me more than any others that I've played, but not for the reason that most people constitute a "Scary game." I view scary games not as something that have a lot of monsters that jump out of a closet and go "A bloogey-woogey-woo!" That's simply startling. A opossum could come flying through the window and it'd make me jump and scream, but then it'd be over after that because all it is, is STARTLING. For a game to actually scare me it has to get into my mind, make the adrenaline pump, and have to actually kick in that survival instinct that screams in my mind, "YOU'RE ABOUT TO DIIIIIIIIIEEEEE!!!!!"
Now that THATS out of the way, the two games I've played that match this definition the best are Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, and Dead Nation.
All of PoPWW was dark, gritty, and creepy as all mess, but the parts that actually truly terrified me was when the Dhaka would appear and chase you. You can't fight. You can't hide. You have to trust you're skills in free running are good enough to NEVER MISSTEP EVER BECAUSE OH GOOD GOD HE'S DESTROYING EVERYTHING AND THERES TENTACLES COMING AT YOU! FASTER FASTER RUN FASTER YOU IDIOT!!!!
...
Needless to say, whenever one of these chases came up my heart would begin beating out of my chest, my eyes would be glued open, and my palms would sweat profusely.
Dead Nation was like that, but all the time. While in Dead Space or Doom 3 the threat of all the baddies was diminished somewhat by the comfortable use of heavy ordinance, in DN the weapons you have never seem to be enough. You can't lose concentration for one moment or else you'll be swarmed and surrounded faster than you can breathe. It NEVER lets up. There's ALWAYS some new baddie or a horde of zombies surrounding you. You burn through ammo faster than a mini-gun trying to clear a crowded Tokyo street. It quite honestly takes a physical toll out of me, and I have to stop playing after every level in order to get my heart to calm down and to get my adrenaline levels back in check.

GuardianZack : True that. That game is scarier than being with Jeffrey Dahmer in a dark closet.

Scariest game I've ever played myself... would be Haunting Ground, I guess. It's just like Clock Tower, except it doesn't look like crap. It's only moderately scary, I dunno.

I've seen some scary games though. My brother used to play scary games with me because I like being all rattled and excited but I'm too much of a puss to actually get through it myself, haha. We played Silent Hill up to the 4th one I think, and those are scary as all get out because they're just mind rape, man. The monsters and sounds are scary too, not to mention the limited ammo, but just how crazy everything is all the time you can't even get your bearings.

Amnesia is the scariest game I've watched someone play. Lazlo and I played it a few months ago (didn't finish, unfortunately =( ) and I actually gasped and shrieked a few times, as well as hiding my face when something got really terrifying, hahah. Pretty pathetic now that I think about it, sitting here with the lights on and stuff, but we shut ourselves up in a room with no outside noises or light, and man you get sucked into it before you even know it. Lazlo wanted me to take over so he could run to the bathroom one time and I stepped on some of the weird living tissue junk that harms you if you step on it (I didn't see it) and I about rocketed out of my chair when I was damaged. That was the last time I ever took control, hah!

One of the scariest games I have played was Clock Tower 3. A very good game in my opinion. This was one of the games that I always played during the night time and never the day time. I played it with my dad and brothers so it was more of a family thing. The boss characters always chased you in and sometimes it would scare me or one of my brothers. It didn't help that the main character's heart beat would increase when she was scared or being followed by the boss. I will never forget how the Sledgehammer scared the crap out of me when he killed a little girl by bashing her little body with a sledgehammer during a cut scene. It sent chills down my body and after seeing that I was afraid to play the game cause he chases after you as soon as the cut scene has finished. His voice was so scary and fighting him was so epic back in the day, the boss music I loved it ! The good old times

Hmm it would be a tie between Fatal Frame 3 or The Grudge video game...

Fatal Frame 3- It was a really scary game especially when your in first person view trying to get the perfect shot (literally) on a ghost that will attack you if you miss. The enviornment is really scary and its very dark. I hate the fact that the girl in blue keeps following you at one point in the game and I get super scared if she spots me or doesn't go away.

The Grudge- Take the s***ty controls away from the game and its very creepy especially when you play with the lights off. A lot of jump scares and when you play with more then 1 person they can press some buttons to totally screw with you. Also it has a feature that monitors your scare level which is kind of unique. Not much in terms of story or gameplay.

I'm terrible with horror games. I get scared extremely easily in horror games.

SCP - Containment breach: A fan made game based off of the SCP series that's still only in the very early alpha stages...

Never again. Seriously; no. I refuse to play that again. I literally could not sleep for until I was up for 35 hours straight and just simply passed out. And I must have played no longer than 20 minutes.

I'm sure if I played with it for a while longer I would eventually grow a bit more resistant to the scares, like some people do when they play enough of Amnesia: The Dark Descent.... but not even going to bother with it. It's a good game but I rather not need to buy a new pair of boxers every time I play it.

It would be a tie between Silent Hill 3 and Siren.
Silent Hill 3 was so scary that I couldn't get past the first part of the game, but I was drinking so that may have been a large factor. I never really "played" it though.

Siren was the scariest I did play. Siren was full of "shibito" basically spirit possessed zombies that came back to life after you killed them. Throw in sight-jacking, being able to gaze through the site of these shibito, and the fact that many of the character you play as being essentially defenseless makes for a creeeeepy game.During one of the levels you are in control of a little kid who has to make it through his house while his parents have turned into shibito. This amounts to having to move your way past zombies while inside a tiny Asian-style house.

Cryostasis is the one of the most scariest games I ever played. I think mostly because this memory flashbacks and freaking ice reflecions. And if you really wanna be afraid when playing video game u should try it. It's old game ( I think like 4-5 years old) but it's still good and keeps in tension.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
