Breath of fire 2 was a game released for the super nintendo in 1994 after the success of the first game and they remade this game for the GBA.

The story of Breath of fire 2 takes place 500 years after the first Breath of fire game, where the protagonist is Ryu Bateson who lives with his father (ganer)  and baby sister (Yua) in a small village. One day the just disappear and no one remembers who ryu is and he becomes an orphan. He then meets bow, a thief who is looting the church and they become friends. Deciding that the village doesn´t profit them, they go away and hides in a cave when it starts to rain. Unfortunately a big monster resides in the cave and the monster quickly knocks out the two boys and repeatedly calling Ryu the destined child. It was all a dream though...
10 years later they work as rangers for hire, but Bow gets blamed for stealing and Ryu has to venture out to clear his name and find the real thief. While on his journey, he encounters that many people are possessed by demons.

Let´s not spoil more off the plot here...personally, i really like the plot, even though it can get really cliché at some points, but it does feel like every character get their own moment of development. The first game was much more rushed, while this game takes more time with itself and
it´s dialog. I also really like the little things, like the small jokes they pop up and their plot twist which they don´t actually announce out. If you really like stories based of orginased religion, you are really going to like this game (although it can sometimes feel a little to much for me).

The graphics are ok. For super nintendo standards, i´ve seen better. It´s nothing mind breaking in this. The soundtrack is good though, with a lot of battle soundtracks sticking in your head (especially the final boss theme), but to be honest, i liked the overworld theme of BOF1 better. Then again, it really comes to what kind of taste you have.

The gameplay is the traditional turn-based rpg where every character has their own specialisation. Ryu is the strong auto-attacker with dragon abilities. However these abilities are much more underpowered in this game then in BOF1 (where you just pick a dragon and use him for the rest of the fight, which was just insanely overpowered), but these abilities drain ALL your mana no matter how much you have
(% of mana = higher damage). It was better in BOF3. Katt is the fierce, quick fighter, Bow is the healing support, Rand is the bruty tank with support abilities, Nina is the offensive spellcaster, Spar has the buff and debuff spells and so on. Every character has their own unique ability which they can activate any time. However, they tend to be either overpowered or insanely worthless. Examples are Blue's shed ability (which gives her ALL health back and removes effects like poison or zombie) or Katt´s dare (which makes every enemy hit her, which is pointless since Katt is a glass cannon).
Where this game shines is the depth of the game.  There is so much extra stuff you can find and the game rewards you for exploration. You can build your own town and fill it with people who gives you different benefits which gives you different ways to play the game. There is also 8 playable characters (9 if you count the hidden one) so you can try different parties and such. The game also has 3 different endings and a lot of weapons and armors that requires you to search every nook and cranny of the game (or makes you look up a guide ). You will no doubt get your money worth (or Viz in this case) when it comes to replayablility.

This game can however get really easy if you manage to find to many secret like the hidden character and a secret island which has monsters that are HUGE, but if you defeat them you get insanely amounts of EXP and Gold and you will eventually find effective ways to kill them.

This game may not be a rpg masterpiece like Final Fantasy 6 (which i actually have not played, i am basing this on what i´ve heard), but if you are a rpg fan you must play this. The best part is that this will only get better when BOF3 comes out!
