I sent this to a Local and they didn't know about it, so I figured I'd post a thread about it.

In a lot of cases it's better if a link opens in a new tab. Like if a user is viewing a thread and you post a link to another thread, it may be easier if the link to the other thread opened in a separate tab. I always do this automatically anyway, but that doesn't mean everyone does.

Normal link tag-

Link that opens in new tab-

Basically, you just add target="_blank" to the tag. A lot of people here know enough about coding that I figured they might know about it, yet no one uses it. I feel like most of the Board should do it, but most people don't seem to know about it so I'm posting it.

I never use this myself, because if someone wants to open a link in a new tab it's as simple as clicking the link with their middle mouse button or while holding the ctrl key down. Still good to know, I suppose.

Cheers for the tip.. I never use links in the layouts i make anyways.... Apart from one i made and used for about 2 days.. 

But if anyone asks for a link I'll know what to do know .

I don't typically do this because I'm used to writing for XHTML 1.1 STRICT, which doesn't allow hyperlinks to have targets. Sometimes I forget that Vizzed is still using that ancient HTML 4.0 standard that allows a lot of deprecated and, honestly really weird HTML standards from the Wild West days of the web.

Also I'm prone to just using [url] BBcode, which on every forum except Vizzed opens in a new window.

I know about it, and I know how to do it. (albeit not off the top of my head, I need to reference it.)

It just takes too long, and I'm a busy person, so I skip the task of looking it up.

I don't even post links that often, except when I'm linking a thread in a post. Since the thread I closed is useless now ANYWAY, it should be a big deal either way.

I usually don't think to add a target to my links. Although, I will from now on.
