I'm using Ubuntu and I'm liking it. I spent all day downloading it, then burning it. I'm loving it(damn McDonalds. Fools made it to where you can't say "I'm loving it"without them poping up in your head.). I'm loving it alot. I haven't installed it. Just running it in a CD, testing it out.

Of course, Vista won't let me delete REALLY important files like RK launcher for example. And, because i have a lot of those kinda files, it takes up a MASS amount of space in my C drive. If I do make my laptop a dual boot, I'm going to even the storage half & half. For almost every laptop, this would be troublesome. But my laptop has 221 gigs of C drive storage. I don't know how many gigs my HDD is, because the darn 'System Properties' doesn't show that... oh well.

The reason why a wipe would come is because about 60 gigs of C drive storage is taken up Needless to say, my C drive space would go from 221 to 110.5 per-OS. With nearly 60 gigs of Vista storage is already taken up...yeah.

Another reason for the dual-boot is because: I'm tired of stressing over what browser i should use, what anti-virus is good, etc. It's a bit stressful. With Ubuntu, not near as many viruses, enhanced security code, and it's less popular.

The reason for not switching entirely to Ubuntu is because it doesn't have much support. I like using different programs, like Last.fm, Hypercam2, and Any Video Converter(the last 2 are required to make videos).

What do you guys think? What are your recommendations?

To check all your HDD:
Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management.
Select Disk Management from the left taskpane.
Shows you all your connected drives and their space, wether it be allocated or not.

anyway. you can have as many problems no matter the OS.
weigh up the pros and cons. look at what you use your OS for.
there are many ways of working this, live cd OS (like your doing with ubuntu) virtualisation, dual boot...

if a dual boot might be for you, you may want to reconsider spliting the HDD space right down the middle.
as vista can be greedy you may be better going for a 60-40% or even 70-30% split.
remember though, you can slim vista alot, just need to know what to remove and what to keep.
a fresh install of ultimate for example can take 30-40gb, 20gb less then your projections.

I have a 240 gig laptop! Wow. Anyways, HOLY FREAK!!!!! Ultimate is a memory hog... Heck, Basic is a memory hog. Good thing my comp. came with Premium and not Ultimate.

I'm about to wipe my computer. For the 2nd time.
Thanks for the advice DH, i'll be splitting it 60-40 because Windows Updates like a prostitute has sex. It's insane how many times it happens.

And plus, Linux doesn't have much support so it wouldn't really be using much memory. The OS doesn't have security updates because it doesn't have problems so that wouldn't hog the memory up.

Thanks Dark. I'm going to miss my computer and all my data... but it's to fix my computer and make it dual-boot.

Wish me luck, because all of my luck is bad luck(as is proven with my history of computers)!!!

Edit: Darn it! I can't find my Vista disk. As much as i wanna burn Vista, i won't because it's illegal. So, i won't be able to take the lazy way out. Darn it!

Edit 2: Pardon the language, but DAMN IT!!! I epic epic epic epic failed. I thought i had Vista taking up most of the memory. I thought wrong. Vista is gone. Linux is the only OS. Damn

That sucks dude. I'm running it on my laptop with no problems. No anti-virus or anything. Then again, it may be because it's Kubuntu(Ubuntu with KDE, which i don't know how to use so i just stick with GNOME interface). KDE is really cool, i just don't know how to connect to the internet to use it lol.

Bobbeh: Is your PC filled with stuff? Does it have 2 gigs of RAM? Is it a 240 gig HDD? If it's higher than that, i have no idea.

I've lost three hard drives to Ubuntu and have finally given up on it. My computer is pretty much the same as BigBob85s too.

Okay, I feel kind of silly digging this thread up after it's gone idle for over a month, but I have to ask. What partitioning method did you use, Rasenganfan, when you installed Linux? If you used guided, that's really only good for a fresh system with no OS on it yet. My dad found that out the hard way. ._.;
