Hello! I'm new around, been lurking for some...

I need to get this lil baby running know what I mean?

I mean I never could totally forget the dreamcast.

When I had it at first, I really was a newbie.

Trying to get games for my system wasn't always an easy thing. It never really caught on in my area, I don't know, didn't seem to be a big thing, everyone was looking up to the new PS two, the stores wouldn't bother stocking up on DC anymore...depressing situation, seems I can never be on the right side of the fence...

Add the fact I was hardly connecting to the internet so, trying to figure which were the games I liked was long, since there was pretty much only Sony buzzing all around.

Now I suspect people in my area always had a hard time with japanese concepts and the whole japanese gaming culture which Sega was pushing. They would prefer much more the americanized styles of the Playstation and more evidently the XBOX. Well that is my overall impression, anyway...

I was quite amazed about a few years back when I discovered that the Dreamcast had inspired a whole new subculture of retrogaming, modding and homebrewing. I saw I wasnt the only one to see something special about that machine.

I have the luck to have a March 2000 unit, so it's supposed to run CD-Rs pronto. I owned several of these copied games, which I ordered from some guy at the time. This posed no ethical problem for me, since there was what I judged to be a sheer unavailability of good games -new or used- and of information about the games (except for a few specialized glossy mags at the time I believe).

I was already ransacked by what I considered greed from the part of Sega and merchants. The multiplication of accessories you needed, the steep price of some games, etc put me in a bitter mood for a few months soon after I got my unit. This is why I consider these games should be our due, because: face it: who would still try to cash in on those? The fans should be the bearers of rights for all the games and game systems that Sega have decided to ABANDON.
It should then be abandonware, if I may say so. Well that is my point of view. Sega (and third-party developers) should pay homage to the fans that made them what they are today, by giving up all the rights for these softwares and hardwares. I mean how many bad moves can one make?
It wasn't enough for Sega to drive the brand to the ground, why does it have to look away from the hardcore fans?
Sega these days is the shadow of its former self, well more of a haunting ghost actually, but nothing like the glory days of NAOMI...it's taken the back seat where it should have been leading the way. Sign o'the times, I guess.

That said I will probably need your help soon as I have started recently to burn my own dreamcast games. Did not have a lot of success so far, but getting there slowly, surely.

hi, welcome to the board ~waves~
whoa thats one big post

shame about your problems, but the creation/modify date shouldnt matter one bit.
though i spose you could turn back your system clock to a date in 2000 (the file should readjust itself, if it doesnt you can do it manually) to rollback the modify date.
though im not the resident DC expert here, i dont even have one

anyway, continue to have fun, to check the rules and if you have any problems dont hesitate to ask again.

and pop into GYR discussion for any rom related issues, if you have any

hey thanks!
I solved my problem with Jet Grind, and eventually with all games...I just did a laser readjustment and all is working fine, mostly. I was just kind of trouble shooting before I made the tweak.

Yeah. I don't always feel like posting because when I start, this is what it can result in, and while some folks appreciate a little reading, I often get complaints. but...anyway...viva DC is all I gotta say for now.

Cheers

Hello all! Yeah, it's been a while. I should really visit this place more. All you people sound like much fun. I wish we could meet sometimes.

I been burning games like crazy since that post...to the point where I broke the DC spindle motor (a 2nd time believe it or not). I have hooked up another motor and still have to try out, but I am not sure if it will run the same and I hope I aligned it right. Just need to hook up wires...

So I have been more on my GC recently, though not as much as on my arcade emulators, which is like paradise for me some days. ( save the fact it can't really play newer games from 2002 on and 3D emulation my CPU doesn't fully support).

I play some old classics, some puzzles like Puyo Puyo, Puzzle Fighter etc.
Also like me some platformer gun and run type once in a while and the occasional brawler.

Mainly though I play the 2d shooter and the 2d fighter. Just loaded 2 other fighters last night that I had never heard of before : Kaiser Knuckle by Taito, and Dragoon Might by Konami. Two seriously overlooked fighters, in my opinion, and from brands not necessarily associated with this kind of games...
Also got Change Air Blade. In this one you pilot a 2d plane on a vertical screen, except it's a one-on-one VS game. Totally original ad fun. See this is the kind of discovery I am making these days, when it comes to games. I can't really be bothered by the 'new' stuff, since there is enough good stuff from the past. And what's good doesn't need fixing, in my eyes. Just wish there was less scrubs and more competitive players the world over.

EDIT

I forgot to mention I also play Saturn games on SSF.

I like to play DragonForce, Guardian Heroes, In The Hunt, Soukyugurentai, Batsugun, Gunbird, Detana! Twinbee, Thunder Force V, Assault Suit Leynos 2, Road Rash, Princess Crown, Panzer Dragoon (Zwei), Metal Slug, Battle Garegga, DoDonpachi, Shinobi Legions, Loaded, Hyperduel, Radiant Silvergun, Darius Gaiden, Kingdom Grandprix, Gekirindan, Layer Section, Cyberbots,Tenchi wo Kurau II, Elevator Action Returns, RockmanX3, Space Harrier, etc. (with almost no problem now, after a bit of tweaking of course. Ex. the music lags sometimes and some of the BGM sounds are slightly detuned in some cases)

The 2d arcade fighters (Street Fighter II, Street Fighter Alpha, King of Fighters, Samurai Spirits etc) have options for practice and there are some cool original fighters too to check out. (Ninku, Sonic Council, Asuka 120% BurningFest,...)

The 3d games still run too slow or have glitches, at least on this cpu, so I tend to avoid them, sadly though...

(WipEout works good though)

Wish I could find a Saturn, but everywhere I look, it's always sold...not so surprising, since any collector will know by now how this system is cherished by the true amateurs of good old gaming...
