i still say its retarded, a console thats built to commts suicide, wtf.
like they wouldnt make enough money as is without people having to replace their console every couple of years?

should look at modding a xbox with parts that arnt built fail, though if the OS is designed to kill the system you would need a new OS too...

Never had it happen, never had it happen to a friend. Canadian 360s are far more sturdy.

I've had my 360 for quite a while, never had it happen.

Microsoft has a pretty good warranty on their XBox 360's so if it does happen, good chance you can send it to them for free and get it fixed. And I'm pretty sure what's the problem is fixed, it'll never happen again.

And I haven't heard anyone to have the problem with the newer Xbox 360 models.

And the Xbox 360 isn't the first system to have problems with it's first generation of models. The PS2 also was notorious for having tons of problems when it first came out. I remember my dad going thru 3 PS2's in the first few months of it coming out due to getting PS2's that didn't work properly (and the problems ranged from disk door not opening to games not playing properly).

Well, i haven't had it happen to me but my brother had it happen to him 4 times. He has an older model though...
One of my friends had it happen to him and he had an newer 360. It seems like the newer 360's are resistent to the RRoD but not immune.

My brother has one. It worked for a year then he got the red ring of death.
Since then for the past year it's either been at a workshop, or on the way to/from said place. They have sent it back to him 4 times saying that it was fixed; after it was plugged in, it didn't work.
So now he's addicted to the PC because they can't fix his 360. It's been at the workshop for the past 3 months.

I am just scared... or perhaps I have a slight feeling... that I am going to buy a game that I REALLY want to play and then have the thing die on me. But it hasn't so far over the two years I've had it. I keep telling myself I'm due.. but eh.

I bought my Xbox 360 this year and it works like a charm, no red rings yet. However, my wireless controller blinks lights one and four, then 2 and 3. What is that about?

That's just the controller signaling you that the battery is low. That's what it's meant to do... really it tells you when you're below 1/2 of your battery life. Yeah... it's strange.

Luckily, I've still not had a RRoD. I've actually been listening to the sound the games make when played if it sounds like it's spinning to fast I store it on the harddrive. I'd rather not have to deal with warranties. It took a friend of mine months to get his issues ressolved by sending it back and what not.
The color red has truly become a scary color to me.

The main problem that caused them though was overheating from game disc rotation. You ALWAYS have a chance for it no matter which "version" you have. Just some are less likely due to generating less heat or atleast displacing it better. Most systemk that get sent back get certain things replaced and an extra heatsink installed. I'm not sure if they do it for all ones being released or just the refurbished.
The easiest way to avoid it is well listen to your Xbox. If it sounds like it's dying(good examples are with like Fable 2 and such) You just hear the noise from the constant motion. If you hear that the best way to avoid it is well. Play less or install it on your harddrive(which was just one of the purposes).
I love my Xbox and it's never given me trouble because I treat it well.

Happened to me when I first got my 360 when I tried to play GTA4 for the first time, at first I read up about it and there was talk of it being caused by a heated up solder which had broke around the video card. Solutions given involved wrapping the console in a towel or re-soldering. They sounded too risky so I just sent my console into microsoft. Suprisingly I got it back within a week of me sending it out, has worked perfectly ever since. Have had no problems with my PS3 though
