So, President Obama came to southern California today for a two-day trip. There was a town hall style meeting in Costa Mesa (in Orange County) today (listened to it on the radio) and there will be another in Los Angeles tomorrow. He's also going to be appearing on Jay Leno's show, I think it tapes tonight and airs tomorrow night but I need to double check. It will be the first time that a sitting president has made an appearance on a late night show, so I think that will be worth watching no matter what your political affiliation is.
What was neat about today, and the main reason I am making this post, is that I got to see his plane land. I live in Long Beach, which has the largest airport in the area that isn't an international one. Because of this, it is a lot easier to clear out and close down in order for Air Force One to fly in, as opposed to the chaos it would create at LAX or John Wayne Airport (in OC). Read about it in the paper yesterday and I really wanted to see it. Lucky for me, my boyfriend's work is right across the 405 freeway from Long Beach Airport, so a small group of us climbed up on the roof at about 3pm and got to watch the plane come in. His boss got some great shots of it coming in and I actually got to see it touch down on the runway. It doesn't seem like that much, but for me it was important because it was the closest that I will probably ever be to a president or to that plane (which is huge, by the way) and thus I am very excited about it.
