My brother god bless him lives at home and is turning 26. all his friends have moved out, got partners, married and such or live with friends or rent a room.

What about you what do you think, is this too old or doe sit not matter? what does your culture say about it?

For your information I moved out very early, but then I am as Beyonce would say an independent woman.

I was about a month away from turning 25 when I moved out because that was when I could financially afford it. Our western culture as a whole usually thinks that children should leave as soon as they turn 18 but more commonly that just isn't possible. I would say up to 30 it isn't surprising to still be at home.

My own brother still lives at home with my parents and he is 46 now. It sucks for him, but it's how the cards have been dealt.

Granted, I live now with my fiance and his mother, but that is a rare situation where we moved in to help her out.

I don't think there's a necessary time to move out. It's usually best for everyone involved if you can move out in your early 20's, but a lot of people fall into trouble financially or live at home to be closer to work/school, etc. There's this general consensus that if you live at home you're some kind of a bum, but if you have a job and you're earning your own way, saving up to move out, are there taking care of a parent, or have some sort of housing emergency, I don't see why it wouldn't be acceptable to live there.

If you're just a lousy shut in neckbeard that lurks in your mom's basement all day and demand she make you PB&J's while you use her credit card to buy Dragonball Z DVD's on eBay, that's a little less acceptable.

I moved out when I was 18 to go to college, and only stayed with my parents again when I was 19 and had just moved back into state and was trying to find a place to live. And that only lasted a couple weeks. Since then, I haven't lived with my parents. I hope to never have to again, but it's comforting to know that they'd take me, Lazlo, and our daughter in at the drop of a hat if we needed somewhere to be.

I moved out last June and went to a place far nearer at the university I'm currently attending in, compared to our home. I'm now living with my sisters; I don't know if it's counted as "moving out" but I think it does technically. (And now instead of riding a vehicle just to get in there, I just walk for around 5 to 10 minutes depending on where I'll be going inside the campus).

Moved out December 2010. Or January 2011... I kind of forget which...

Anyway, I moved out, and I have been with my grandmother ever since...

There's no real "ideal" time to move out... just do it whenever you are ready honestly. Whether you are 17 or 20, or 32.

I'm basically in the same boat as Juliet. I live with my brother while I'm going to school. I'm not actually paying rent, so I wouldn't count it as having moved out, but I'm not living with my parents either. That said, I probably won't have a place of my own until I'm 22 or 23, so I don't really see an issue with someone living at home when they're only 26.

Was thrown out right after I graduated high school, Got a few jobs and have been surviving ever sense. Its hard at first but once you get settled and on your feet and figure out how to manage play money with life expenses then it becomes a piece of cake. First year or so is the hardest for me at least. Parents did the same with my brother, how we were raised.

Well, I moved out when I was 19 years old. Well, technically, I just moved into the dorm my second year of college and ended up going back home for the summer. But I changed colleges after my second year and moved to the town I am living in now permanently. So I was 20  years old when I officially got my own place.

I moved out last year in the spring before turning 19. My current bf that I live with now, kidnapped me at around 2 in the morning. I just grabbed whatever I could and got out without my parents noticing. Well, they did notice like half an hour later, but it's been more than a year, so now they get along pretty well. And that's good The End!!

I moved out of my parents' house about half-way through my freshman year of college. I was still 18 at that point. My fiance, luckily, has a good job so I was able to move out of my parents' house early.

I moved out of the house at freshly 18.  Though I was an angel by most people's standards, at that time I was the 'black sheep' of my family.  My family had stricter expectations than most, and I was pretty much kicked from my house.  If it weren't for that instant, I would have certainly lived with my parents 'forever', as I loved to think.  I think every kid growing up tells their parents that though.  LOL

I wasn't ready to move out on my own though, and it forced me to grow up rather quickly, which was a good thing.

Well, I haven't moved out of my home yet, nor has my brother who is now 24, although he's planned to move out for 2 years now. I have another friend who is 27 and is still living with her parents, even though she has a job and everything. She doesn't even plan to move out soon. Yet at the same time, my best friend moved out at the age of 17 into his college dorm and a year later (last week to be exact) moved in with two friends that I too am associated with.

I don't think there is necessarily a threshold of moving out of your parents house unless your parents mark one. For example, if I was helping pay the bills while living with my family, would that still be alright? At some point though, I must agree it is best to spread your wings and move out. I'd maybe give the threshold of 30 years old maximum. By then you're going to start living your mid-life, you should be finished school, college/university, or whatever. You really should have job experience by now, and you really should have everything in order to sustain yourself. And even then, you can still always move in with a friend and help pay the bills (although watching court shows like The People's Court I have no idea how well pairing more than one person to pay the bills in a household actually works, so maybe it's not such a great suggestion).

I'm pretty sure moving out is one of those unwritten kind of rules that nobody really has put down in pen and paper, but everyone expects you to follow. In this city of mine I live in, pretty much everyone expect you to move out by at least the age of 22 at latest -- yet nobody ACTUALLY does.

I was 19 when I moved into my own apartment, now, five years later, I have actually bought a house with my mom (well, more like a farm), and we each have half of the mortgages, so even though I live with my mother, I don't live with her.

I am actually kind of in the process of moving out from my parents' home now. Not sure how well that's going to work out though, since my boyfriend is causing a decent bit of trouble :/
