There's a forum that I use a bit that is based on hacking Super Smash Bros Brawl. This is their Index-

http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php

Near the bottom, they have a forum titled Moderation Corner. The description is-

"Got a question or challenge for a moderation you've received? Make a topic here. Only you and the mods can view your topic, so don't worry about privacy. Posts made here do not count towards your total."

Any thoughts on whether or not Vizzed should have a forum like this?

Personally, I've been on both ends. Being banned was kinda annoying. I PM'd the Mod Inbox and got a standard reply from the same member who banned me. I tried to argue it, but kept getting the same thing back.

As staff, we did generally review what went on, but we sometimes made certain calls without having the full story. In some cases, people deserve to just get banned. But in some cases of spamming and stuff like that, a ban might be a bit severe.

Being able to have a discussion about it may help with communication and allowing someone to have a bit more influence might keep them from saying "Mods are jerks, I quit."

Long story short, I wouldn't mind giving this forum a try. If it doesn't work, then there's always that cute little Delete button on the keyboard

i like the idea. i think it would solve a lot of the current problems and allow for easier explanation of why a persons thread was closed so they dont make a thread like "WHY U CLOSE DOWN THREAD"

Um you do remember we have rgr/local/and global mod inboxes. That is the same idea as the forum you were talking about.

I always tell the member when I close their thread they can talk to me about why I closed it and if they have a good reason why to open it again I will listen.

I don't see a need for that forum since we have the inboxes.

RequiemHaunt :

The Inbox is direct communication between that user and one other person. A forum makes it an open discussion between a user and ALL of the mods instead of just the one mod who did something. All mods can see it. All mods can weigh in and all of their comments will be together in one thread.

In light of what RequiemHaunt is saying, this idea would basically replace the inbox system.

Pretty much. They actually have a stickied thread with this description-
This board is for asking questions or even outright challenging a moderation you've received. You may not view or reply to any topics other than those you create. The moderation team can view all topics, and any of them can reply to your question.

We thought this method offered a bit more transparency and ease of access to the whole team than that offered by replying to the PM telling you of your moderation.

However, given the nature of the subject, I think a few important rules need to be laid down:

1. Discussion here WILL be civil. If you think you can get a moderation overturned by blustering about power abuse or flaming us incessantly, you are sadly mistaken. This goes to the moderation team as well. Everyone deserves a fair, unbiased answer.
2. No white knighting. This means that your topics (or topic, if you choose to keep just one and post in it every time you have a new question -- something I recommend but don't require) must be about your own moderations ONLY.
3. A member with the Muted status obviously cannot post here to ask about his or her moderation. In this case, the member may use an alternate account to ask or elect another member to act as a proxy. In this event, the Muted account must PM the moderation team informing us of the chosen alt/proxy. This is the ONLY exception to rule #2.
4. Bans are not negotiable. If you use an alt to argue against a ban, that account and your IP will be banned. If someone else makes a topic for you, that person will be set to Moderated, perhaps Muted.

It would completely replace the Inbox system.

Basically the only purpose of this as opposed to the inbox system is that the mods' replies will be listed in posts. The mods can click "Sent" in the inbox to see what the other mods have replied in an on-going PM.

tRIUNE :

But with the Inbox system, it was usually the person who did the mod action who replies and there was usually only one reply sent. Whenever we replied more than once it was simply a mistake based on someone leaving a message as Unread.

It's more organized to have them all together. That way it's also more of a "reasonable discussion" atmosphere rather than "we're the bosses and we say you f****d up. accept it and move on with your life."
