Sonic the Hedgehog. Was my favourite growing up and still is today. I remember back when I was six, I was asking my librarian questions like "does this book have Sonic the Hedgehog in it?"

Mario, mostly because I used to play it a lot, but there are great games in the series.

I pretty much have to say Final Fantasy. The complexity sucks you into the game and, because of all the side quests and hidden stuf throughout any of the games, it'll keep completionists very, very busy. Final Fantasy VII, X and XII will steal entire months of your life from you....

It's a toss-up between Elder Scrolls and Grand Theft Auto. I love how in both series, you're basically thrust into a world with minimal directions, and can do practically anything right from the start. With big open worlds to explore, and tons of side objectives in both franchises, they've got a special place in my heart.

Maybe it was the latter Final Fantasy(which used to be my favorite franchise) titles that did this for me, but I think Dragon Quest franchise is better. I'm just beginning to see why the Japanese love this franchise. Simplistic RPG goodness comes out of this and the latter Dragon Quest games are even beginning to add storyline, but keep with the simplistic type feel of this franchise. But I'm not surprised we haven't caught up with the Japanese on how good this franchise is, as it takes the United States a while to catch up, like they have with Ninja Warrior. But it will eventually catch on. It might with DQ VII and VIII come out for 3DS later this year(DQ VIII the 29th of December and DQ VII a day later on the 30th).

Metal Gear Solid by a landslide. Every single game has absolutely captivated me and always leaving me wanting to play it again. Of course the newest game was disappointing story-wise but the gameplay is god-like so that's okay. But seriously, I'm a diehard MGS fan.

After playing a few other games in the series (briefly), one of my favorite ones has to be assassin's creed. I really like their style of gameplay, and how much of the game the player gets to play (not taking over the character and not doing stuff like long cutscenes and whatnot). The games are pretty hard, but a good challenge is always accepted, especially if it is a fun game.

I'd say Street fighter.. If not tekken.
Both I've played very frequently and still throughly enjoy to this day.

m0ssb3rg935 : Indeed, indeed Final Fantasy is a really good one.  My favorite being number 6 of the series on the Super nintendo since it introduced me to the whole thing.

The Dark theme of the game and the heroic individual storylines just suck you into the game

I played video games well before Pokémon showed up so my developmental years were spent playing Dragon Warrior (or Dragon Quest if you prefer) and Final Fantasy. I played the Megaman games and they were decent but for me nothing outdoes the artistry of Final Fantasy.

The stories of the RPGs were impressive, especially after the Dragon Warriors where you just saved the world. Sure, you're saving the world again in Final Fantasy but it's not unlike Pokémon, where you go train at a gym, take it over, meet a love interest maybe, and go battle at another gym. It's all, from a long perspective, the same thing over and over.

But Final Fantasy has the story-telling, the characters you can actually believe in, the music and scores, and the themes. I like the fact that each game has different features, from party systems to characters to enemies, to entire worlds. Entirely new worlds, like Spira, are created to embrace the storyline. It's fun to see what develops and the slow-burn of advancing the plot makes the experience enjoyable.

I pick Final Fantasy.

Final Fantasy of course. It just bugs me that they have ruined the whole series for so long.. But I still hold to the old classics so I guess it's fine... I don't need anymore of them when I already have all I want.

The one other is Legaia games.. It's just a shame that there is only 2 of them released..

For me its always been Mario, and I doubt that will ever change. I grew up playing Super Mario Bros. 1, 2, and 3, Super Mario World (to this day still my favorite video game of all time, especially the Gameboy Advance remake), and the Gameboy Mario games like the Super Mario Land series. When I started playing games in the RGR about 1 or 2 years ago, I have come to enjoy other games as well, but they just don't do it for me like Mario. I've grown up with all the characters like Bowser, the Koopalings, Peach, and Toad. I even used to watch the cartoons, and this has to be one of the most popular game franchises of all time in my opinion.

This is a bit of a dilemma.

I absolutely ADORE kingdom hearts, but I don't know anyone who knows anything about it. No one I know likes the series or follows it very closely, and any time I ever try to talk about it in places like youtube comments I just get comments like "kill yourself lol" and I'd rather talk about the game than kill myself

Like, I can't express my frustration with it. I love Kingdom Hearts, and all of my close friends don't want anything to do with it. If I was as emotional as I used to be I would probably say something like "It makes me feel very lonely".

Maybe sometime someone will come by and I'll be able to have some sort of discussion about it. Until then though, I'll just have to enjoy the company of myself

One of my all time favorites would be the Devil May Cry franchise.

The original 3 games were awesome, although 2 was a bit of a downer in terms of quality. 1 and 3 are absolute masterpieces as far as I'm concerned, and although 4 isn't necessarily a bad game, it doesn't have Dante as the protagonist, so I can't get behind it like I do the rest.

Oh, and the reboot was absolute garbage. The game play mechanics were actually pretty solid, but the Story / reincarnations of the cast were just god awful...

I like Mario, Pokemon, Metal gear solid and Metal gear liquid (It's a fun game to play when you can't eat solid foods) I think there is another spin off game coming called Metal gear pureed but can't remember when that will come out.

Kinda surprised that Street Fighter isn't an option! That is easily my favorite franchise with Capcom being my favorite Gaming Company. Despite that, I also enjoy the Final Fantasy series too.

My favorite gaming franchise is Resident Evil. I got into the games when i first played RE4. Im not a fan of horror games but this franchise seems to be more than just jump scaring.
