You can download it now at the Microsoft Website, I'm going to get a 200 GB IDE hdd to use to try it out on. Interested to see what all they have and to see how many blue screens I can get of course.

Let's hope it's better than what Vista was when it first came out.
*Shudders*
Give us some feedback, as I'm soon getting a 1TB drive and I might try it out.

I wouldn't dual boot a beta off the same hdd if I were you.

And I think it works with Vista SP1 in some form. Now if you have to have Vista to have some of that it totally utter blows and gets and automatic Phail from me.

If they make you upgrade from Vista rather than just buying a new OS install wouldn't you give it a fail with PH?

I know ppl that dual boot the beta (as they did with vista beta) with no problems. And from ppl I've heard who have tried it, they are very happy with it. Theres been like a 5 sec boot time reduction (from 33 down to 28) and is going to get faster.

Win7 is much more recource friendly than vista and this one isnt going to be rushed . I got the win7 calculator installed on my vista machine.. Love it .

Also, read in the paper yesterday, that MS was going to limit it to 2.5 million downloads, then they had to stop the DL's and add more servers because of high demand. Now there is unlimited copys until jan 24, then there will only be 2.5 million more copys available for download.

so beta isn't quite ready yet either...

at least vista doesn't get BSOD's ever. vista is so messed up that if it would be about to get a blue screen, the computer would ask permission first

lol. An error would like permission to bug you? Allow or deny?

I had BSOD's..
Also, what do you mean beta isnt quite ready.. Its called beta for a reason. If its RC, then you can start complaining its not quite ready yet.

As for MrGings problem, who knows, maybe you stuffed something up. I got many friends dual booted just fine.

The only reason I don't want to dual boot is 7 could get into the boot file and mess things up, otherwise I wouldn't care.

A 1TB drive is like 100$, not much really. Cheaper if you can find a good deal on Newegg.
So wait, I know about dual Booting, but how does one actually do it? I really want to try out Windows 7.

Err, yes they should? The point of a beta is to test the waters, and see what machines can handle it, what works, and what doesn't. BSOD/crashes/data loss/bricking is all common for betas.

Like, who downloads beta/alpha software and expects it to work for daily use?

well, i'd expect an alpha version to give the BSOD, but i'd figure a beta version would be better than that

Unfortunately your expectations will not be met.
For example:
Take Oblivion, a fully released and patched (Twice) game.
If you have NO mods on it, at all, have done NO changes, heres some of the things that can happen:
Save Data Corruption
Crash-To-Desktop
Freezing

Imagine Oblivion Beta.

Same with Windows XP.

It's not perfect, if it's not a full release, BSOD's are more than likely. Among other errors.

Ahh.. You know sys requirements of games, are there for a reason. Does it list Windows 7 compatability? Does it say windows vista?.. thought so.. As for people who write "Windows vista and greater", they can get lost, they have no idea of there game compatablity with undeveloped OS's.. so.. yah..

Dont expect everything to be working, as DM said. things are ment to go wrong. Beta versions of games arnt there to be played, they are to be tested. Theres big money in it for people who can test things properly.

OS's dont have to count for much higher graphics levels, and physics and what not. But still..

I wouldnt expect many (any?) games to run on win7 at the moment. Its a whole different API for the most part. People complained about that when Vista came out. But they dont think of it this way, can you play NES games on your SNES? (xbox -> xbox360, PS1 -> PS2 were both bad examples).
