well you came to the right guy, what with me being a networking grad

well for under $40 your choices are limited to a few from walmart.
you wont get anything gigabit (10/100/1000, current industry standard)
but they do have some with wireless (remember, you can always turn off the wireless if you dont need it)

if you're only using walmart id say either the Linksys WRT54GS, or the D-Link WBR-1310.
i've personaly used both these brands and can say that their good buys for the price.

remember to look around, you may find somewhere even cheaper

I concur with Hyren, but i'd pick the D-LINK (its the brand of router i use) with wireless... Its handy...

I connect my Router to my 360 via a cable
And connect my laptop to my router wirelessly...
And use my Laptop as a gateway for my x-box's internet...

I dont have any fancy degrees in Networking but its a hobby

btw, DarkHyren, im calling you Hyren now

lol, no problem.
yeah i normally use D-Link myself, just thought it best to give a backup in case they run out or something XD

i've hooked up a 360 to my network (d-link switch connected to d-link modem) and it works perfectly fine.

Do you mean your xbox plugs into your computer, and uses your computers internet access (which is wireless)?

Ill Draw a picutre....

[X-Box] WIRED [D-LINK Router] WIRELESS [Laptop] USB MODEM [Internet]

So, thats how my X-Box gets to the net.

I could draw a more complex picture, but that should suffice... (not really even a picture but meh)

I don't know much about routers, but I know one thing I can tell you:

Avoid Belkin.

I have the capability to connect it to my wii and 360, but it often disconnects and it's hard to set up the first time anyway. And my Dsi...forget speed.

I hear linksys is a good one.
