Super Metroid. All I need to say. I'm sure many of you have played the game, and I'm sure many of you can agree. It's one of the best games of all time. If not that, then one of the best on the Super Nintendo. Its great gameplay mixed with its alien world, completed with the fitting music for each area that you're in makes the game perfectly balanced with its difficulty, and its lone-wolf story. That's right, newcomers to the game. Samus is completely alone in this game like most other Metroid games. Due to the game's great balancing of difficulty, I give Super Metroid a 10.

Graphics: 10

This game has very great graphics for the Super Nintendo. For one, a new feature they added, instead of the previous 2 games, you can now shoot in 8 directions! Plus the graphics of the speed booster ability? When I first played the game, or watched my brother play through it as a child, the game's graphics blew my mind. I thought this game was the coolest thing ever. And still today, I feel the same way towards it. Super Metroid has great graphics for the SNES, Graphics get a 10 for the great gameplay setup compared to the other 2 in the series, and the fact that it was rare to find a shooting game where you could shoot in more than 2 directions.

Sound: 10

This game's sound was very good. Let me start with the sounds themselves. Each time you killed an enemy, shot with the ice beam, or jumped, it'd make the perfect sound effect for each sound. Some of these sounds I found satisfying. Like this new ability they added, the Super Missile, when you shoot at an enemy, it makes a very satisfying sound when the enemy explodes. Go ahead and test that. The music of this game was very fitting for each area that you were in. Most of the music is very catchy, and you'll end up catching yourself humming them later after you've played the game. Not only that, the music was very fitting for the mood of the game itself, there's times when you know when a huge enemy was coming due to the music, or you know you can just shoot your way through everything, because the music portrays the mood of the game. I give Sound a 10 for such well placement of the sounds and music, and for the music being so catchy.

Addictiveness: 10

I can't tell you how many times I've played through this game. It's not even that the game is very long. I'm an extremely experienced player. I can beat this game with all the items in a little over 2 hours. But the thing is, the game is so fun to play through, you'll catch yourself playing through the game over and over again. It's that good. It's never boring, and there's always something to do on it, whether to just explore the unexplored or speed your way through as fast as you can, you'll want to keep doing it, again and again. Addictiveness gets a 10 for just being so addictive.

Story: 8

The story of this game is its weakest aspect. But don't get me wrong, it's still a great story. Your mission throughout the game is to retrieve a larva metroid from planet Zebes. The reason this metroid is so valuable is because it's the last known metroid alive. It was taken from the Ceres space colony by the infamous Ridley, Samus' nemesis. Samus followed Ridley to Zebes and thus starting her quest to find the missing metroid. As I stated earlier, Samus is lone-wolf in this game. Meaning there's no dialogue. The story isn't very fluent in the game, basically you just bash your way through all the enemies, exploring the huge world of planet Zebes. I wouldn't want to have it any other way. This Metroid game should be like this. It makes the game just that much more freaky. The fact that you have no contact to the outside world, and the fact that you're constantly surrounded by lethal aliens and space pirates makes the game just that much more deadly. The story gets an 8 for the way it's portrayed.

Depth: 5

Personally, I don't think this game is really that big. But to a new player, this game seems extremely huge. There's tons to explore, and tons of hidden items to find. I only wish there was more I could find, seeing as how I know where every single item is hidden. But if you're new, it'll take you a few times to get 95 to 100%. But even then, I don't think the game's length interferes at all with its addictiveness. But if you're a person who's looking for an extremely long game, perhaps you should try a different game. But either way, this game is still a great game. I give the depth of this game a 5 due to the length of the game when you're new compared to when you're experienced. It's a huge difference, trust me.

Difficulty: 7

When I first played this game, it was increasingly hard. I could not get passed some of the bosses, and the rooms, some equipped with not only tons of enemies, but 3/4 of the floor is lava. The bosses are just as hard. But the makers of the game knew what they were doing when they made the bosses. Some bosses may seem extremely difficult, but there's more to them than they portray. Pay attention to the environment of the room, and the resources around you. Some bosses are a lot easier than you think. But overall, the game's difficulty is pretty difficult. Some parts seem impossible, but others are easy. All I have to say about trying to beat this? Good luck. It's pretty hard. I give this game a 7 for being pretty difficult, but also for the careful planning of the boss fights.

Wrap things up...

I highly recommend anyone who hasn't played this game to play it as soon as possible. It's such a great game, it's perfectly balanced, and despite its difficuly and its depth, the addictiveness and the gameplay make up for it. The game is so fun, and it's just a great game to play through over and over again. I really hope you give this game a try. I really don't have any complaints of this game. The only thing I would do is add more items. But that's just me. Like I said before, it's one of the best games of all time, and most people who have played it in their childhood probably agree. A lot of games nowadays still don't even compare to this game. I hope you guys or girls enjoy playing through this. Have fun, everyone!

Wow what a good review, 1000 plus words! I could certainly take some notes here. Super metroid is one of my favorite games, sadly I do not have a controller yet, so I have not played this a lot. But what I have played and seen, it is an awesome game. I only scanned this review and will definitely read it all later!

Super Metroid has always been a great game for the Metroid series, I mean, I absolutely love playing this. yeah, I don't play the Metroid games that often, but this game I can play in a heartbeat. Good game.
