Hello, this is another thing1 review. This time, I am going to do Lego Racers for the Nintendo 64. This will be my fifth review, so I hope you enjoy it.
Alright, let us get started with the graphics, which I will being giving an eight (8) on this weirdest of days. The reason this game will be receiving an eight here in graphics is because I actually like this game, which is an honor, because I will be more truthful and honest in my gaming opinions and my reviews. The graphics are of excellent quality. When you build your Lego character and vehicle, if you choose to do so, you can actually see "LEGO" written on each and every stud of each Lego, which I thought was pretty neat. Plus, even though most of the track's characteristics are not very elaborate, it is still of great quality for a game made in the late 90's for the Nintendo 64. I just played this game for the first time a few days ago since, like, 2001? And man, did it bring back some good memories. I am pretty sure I did a picture, I just have no idea where it is.
The sound is going to get a seven (7). I remember actually going online, and downloading every musical sound clip for this game, and this listening to it for about three or four months because it was that good. Then, after those three or four months, it got old, and I quit the game. That is why it is getting a seven. It might take some time, but the sound tracks and the sounds that you hear get repetitive. One thing I actually liked about the game's audio features through out the entire game? The sounds the weapons make when you use them. The grappling hook is just funny. The cannon sounds just like an animate cannon. The colors and the sounds seem to match perfectly for each color, which is really hard to do. But the reason it is not getting more than a 7 is because most of the audio features get old real quick. That is all.
The addictiveness is going to get a seven (7) in this category as well. The reasoning for this being that I love racing games, but this was not one of the best ones that I have played. Granted, it was unique in it's own way. And I could create and re-create my Lego car and Lego Character over and over. The tracks were pretty fun to play on, however, some of them were just to easy, or way to hard to even get a place better than next to last, or first every time, reverse-respectively. The main reason I am giving this a seven in the addictiveness category is because you can actually build Lego stuff. Granted, it is only cars, and they can only be a certain height and width, but still kind of fun in it's own way. I personally like having instructions, but this was still pretty fun
The story gets category gets a seven (7). Although this game does not have much of a story, there is one: keep beating the races, get to a boss race. Beat the boss, unlock the boss. Unlock the boss, and you can play as the boss. That is about it. But, my reasoning for giving it a seven is because it was actually kind of fun, because each and every boss had their own style. One has a serpentine style of driving, while another likes to take turns as tight as possible. And then another likes to go off course all the time. It was pretty amusing. Each boss has their own style, which is a huge plus for me.
The depth of this game is a pretty looking *insert bedazzled item here* nine (9). It's getting a nine because unlike some games, you do not have a back round on the tracks. It might be black, or something else, but this one actually has a back round on each and every track, which is a huge plus for me. I really enjoy racing games that have more to offer me than just the track and game play it self. The whole thing that I mentioned above about the bosses and their own styles also really adds to the depth of the game. The sound features add to the depth as well. Really, the whole game is great in terms of depth. And, as mentioned above, the actuality of LEGO being put on every stud was pretty cool too (sorry for all the flash backs in this category).
The difficulty is going to get a six (6). The difficulty of this game is really not all the hard. If you play racing games, and are used to games like Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong Racing, then you will enjoy this game too. However, if you are a noob when it comes to racing games, then you will have to give it a few races to get used too. It is similar to games just mentioned, but like every must have in every single racing game, the driving experience must be unique, and this game fits those requirements. It takes some getting used to, but the driving experience for me on this game is a bit more preferable than that of Mario Kart 64. Not by much, but still preferable.
Alright... it is now time for the overall score. *drum roll please* And the overall score is.... a decent looking seven point eight (7.8). My reasoning for this is that this time I actually averaged out the numbers, because I honestly did not know how to rank this game overall. This is actually the first time I have done my overall ranking like this. I wanted to try something new.
As for personally experiences with this game (which is a normal feature in my reviews), I do not really remember that much about this game. I played it a little bit so I could get refreshed on the game and do a proper review. That is it.
As always, thank you for reading this review, and all criticism and comments are welcomed. |
