I'm going to take Computer Science next year and I was just curious about what I can expect about it.
Stuff like 'What do you do in the class' and opinions about it, etc.
Thanks!!

~I wasn't really sure where to put this so... ya

It depends on what programming language you take and what level it is. I assume you'll be taking a beginners class. And if so, it should be pretty simple. You'll start off learning how to print "Hello world" to the screen. Then you'll probably do some pretty basic stuff using conditionals and loops. It's pretty easy stuff, but the syntax can be pretty frustrating if you've never programmed before.

I might be able to help you some if I've programmed in the language before. So, out of curiosity, what language are you gonna be programming in?

Oh, what a coincidence. I assume you're currently in the eighth grade right? I was wondering the same thing. Do you have one or two options for Computer Science? I have both Business and Programming I think. I don't know enough about either one to give you much advice about it.

soxfan849 : probably just english... you meant like speaking language right? Because if you meant programming language, then I have no idea lol

catfight09 : noo lol I'm going to be a Junior (hs) next year. The class description didn't really say much just "Computer Science H" and the teacher said there's some stats and calc involved. I think they said something about working with java, too. I've heard rumors that the final project will be to create a video game or something.

Haha, I meant programming language. They're not gonna make you speak a foreign language at the same time, that would be insane!

But if you've heard that you'll be working with Java, then I assume that that's the programming language. I've never done any game programming, but I have worked with Java before. And I can bet that you'll start off by just printing simple stuff to the screen.

But you won't be the only one in the class unfamiliar with programming. It should go at a slow enough pace, I would think. If you're worried about it, you could always download Eclipse and get started doing some really basic stuff over the summer (assuming you have time).

Since it's just a high school science class, I'd say you'll probably just do some very simple stuff, like sox said, printing to the screen, some loops and other similar stuff. If it's a full term class you might end up making a simple game.

Also math. You'll be doing a lot of math. In fact, you might even program a graphical (or otherwise) calculator as a project. If you're into computers though, you'll have a lot of fun and learn some really neat stuff. I'm kind of jealous that you get to take such a class in high school!
