Here is the current standings after 3 weeks of the fantasy league.
Here are a few notes to well... note.
San Jose Thunder
Josh Hamilton and Ian Kinsler are the life of the offense. The offense is clearly the biggest weakness on the team at this stage of the season, and a lot of that can be attributed to poor play by players like Albert Pujols.
A trade happened, so let's see if it shakes up their offense...
Thunder - Underdogs
Albert Pujols (LAA - 1B) - Paul Goldschmitt (ARI - 1B)
Andre Ethier (LAD - OF) - Giancarlo Stanton (MIA - OF)
Yoenis Cespedes (Oak - OF) - Jay Bruce (CIN - OF)
Eric Hosmer (KC - 1B) - Mike Moustakas (KC - 3B)
Andrew BaileyDL (Bos - RP) - Brandon Beachy (ATL - SP)
They are currently leading the league despite not having taken part last year. (I hope he actually registers here soon...)
Garfield Afros
Probably the most well rounded team right now, they've gotten by on just being a good team. Longoria is hurting the team with his poor fielding percentage. The pitching is also just getting started. Haren and Grienke will turn their seasons around. And the relief may get saves... but they have high ERAs for closers. The pitching is probably the one thing keeping this team from beating the Thunder right now.
PacBrewers
You can sum up their success in one word. Matt Kemp. Matt Kemp gives this team a win if they are losing, and Matt Kemp gives them a win if it's close. If they are winning... Matt Kemp makes the win bigger. Aside from Kemp the hitting is currently nothing special, although they get the job done. Really I don't know how they are currently in third, as their pitching is probably the worst among the top 3 teams. I guess Matt Kemp has just been that good. Kershaw and Zimmermann are currently the only pitchers having great years.
Jesus Freaks
Last year's #2 team is off to a slow start. This can be attributed to a mostly flaccid offense. Curtis Granderson and Derek Jeter are the offensive stars of this team early in the season. An injury to Jacoby Ellsbury didn't help, as they were lucky enough to pick him up in the draft (I would have taken him if it weren't for friggin Pineda... who is out for the year... taking a spot for no good reason. Shake fist). They lead the league in injured players I think. The pitching has been nothing if not spectacular... they get Jesus Freaks any of the wins they have managed to acquire.
Mystery Inc.
Otherwise known as last year's dud team... Aside from Adam Jones... this team is rather desolate and pathetic. Konerko would be a nice addition to this team... if he wasn't on the bench. Nothing is going right for players who generally suck to begin with (weird. right?)
The Underdogs
Yeah yeah, laugh. I know my team is in last, but that's the nature of this team. They will start in last, and rely on heavy hitters to come through in the end. They've done a LOT of trades since the season has started. So they will rely on the players they've acquired to become better. Here's a list of offensive players they have acquired since the year began. Brandon Phillips, Adrian Beltre, Mark Teixeira, Andre Ethier, Yoenis Cespedes, Ichiro Suzuki, Albert Pujols, Eric Hosmer. Half the starting lineup were on other teams (mostly the trade happy Thunder) to begin the year. The pitching is starting to come around as well. Really the pitching is a major reason this team is currently winning their Week 4 matchup.
Predictions for the rest of the year.
1. Garfield Afros
2. The Underdogs
3. Jesus Freaks
4. San Jose Thunder
5. PacBrewers
6. Mystery Inc.
