http://lifehacker.com/400581/hack-your-wii-for-homebrew-apps-and-dvd-playback
There is the complete guide to softmod your Wii.

Things you need are:
Nintendo Wii
An FAT16-Formatted SD Memory Card (more on this below)
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess ($50)
The Wii Brew SD Installer (Windows)
A Windows PC with an SD card reader

"Once you've got your Wii opened up to homebrew apps, you've unlocked all kinds of potential, including emulators for old-school gaming consoles, different media players, and other utilities. If you've already got the Homebrew channel running on your Wii, let's hear what homebrew apps you've been using and loving in the comments. "

Yeah, makes absolutely no sense why they wouldn't allow it to play DVD movies when it's already got all the capabilities of doing so

Yes it does, and from what I understand from reading this article (and others) Nintendo didnt want to pay the royalties need to make the Wii play DVDs because they felt it would drive the cost of the system too high.

In my personal opinion, it was a good choice. I have too many other things that can play DVDs, lol.

That's kinda interesting, I didn't know there would be fee's involved with allowing it to play DVD's when it already does

Although most people have multiple DVD players, some kids may own a Wii and a TV and it might be convenient for them to be able to play DVD's on their Wii's if they don't have a DVD player (though DVD players are cheap). But another reason why nintendo might have done that is because they seem to want their systems dedicated to gaming only, nothing else.

It's funny that this simple exploit also makes it possible to pirate VC and Wiiware games. And yes I'll be doing this the second I get my hands on an SD card.

Has anyone else tried this? I plan to try it out within the next week or so and will post my results once I've successfully installed the homebrew channel.

I bet Nintendo is planning to show this later on in development, "The DVD Channel" for download maybe? Must be the reason why they're hiding it.

That would be applicable if the channel wasn't custom built.

Also, check out Wii Iso Loader, pirate games without modchips = HELL YES

It's not about Zelda itself, that's just the game chosen due to most people wanting to do this would probably have it.

I disagree with pirating everything like DM is talking about.

Wait.... if you don't have modchips and you're just pirating directly, won't it be easier for you to get caught?

I finally borrowed my dad's zelda game and modded my Wii.

That has got to be the easiest thing to mod, took only a few minutes between all the steps. Once I got the Homebrew Channel, there was a online catalog which allowed me to download stuff right from the internet to my Wii with my Wii. These things included Utilities, Games, Demos, and Emulators.

I tried out the SNES and NES emulator, they worked pretty much perfect but I did notice a very short delay in response with the WiiMote but I've noticed this same delay before when
playing I've played games on the Virtual Console.

The games I tried out were:
NES: Super Mario Bros 3 and Mega Man
SNES: Donkey Kong Country and (for the ultimate test) Super Mario Kart
And all worked perfectly.

I tried to get Sega Saturn and N64 emulators to work but they didn't seem to work. Additionally, I'd like to point out that playing roms with those emulators is as simple as taking your memory card from your wii, placing it into the pc and simply dragging and dropping roms onto the memory card (though i'd of course suggest making folders for each system of roms).

EDIT: Good place for Wii stuff:
