anyway, i was bored this morning and came up with this



the drawing is of the monarch from the venture bros., i only like it cause of the face; i've been having trouble with fore-shortening as seen on the arm pointing toward the viewer

i finished this about five minutes ago, it's my second attempt in an anime style; it's of greed from full metal alchemist, he's just about the only character i can stand

i drew a portrait of his regular form, and a smaller drawing of him posing in his transformed state
any comments and/or suggestions welcome

Greed was almost ruined for me by obnoxious, rabid, teenage fangirls that I actually deigned to attempt to role-play with (oh why did I do it). D: I love it how his default expression is this half-grumpy, condescending look. You almost have it down; I could definitely recognize him as Greed. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I'd be able to give you pointers, because there really are no good tips on emulating the art style of other people. Arakawa's is actually harder than it looks, too.

On the foreshortening issue, I have the same problem. My only suggestion is to look for some references or a low-cost anatomy volume that touches on it. I bought an artist's anatomy book ages ago, and now I don't even know where the deuce it went. ._. I think my house ate it. Either way, the Monarch is probably my favorite villain ever on that show just because he's too goofy to be properly effective at what he tries to do. n_n But he tries so hard. His face is fantastic.

thanks, i think the greed drawing came out accurately cause the show was on [as] at the time and i thought what the hell?
but for me it's kinda hard to draw in an anime style cause it feels a little too simple, but it's also complicated, it's weird

and i'll have to look into getting one of those books cause that would be a great help, and the face took the longest in the monarch drawing cause i wanted to get it just right

the next drawing i post will most likely be of the action man

It's his eyes, I think. Arakawa has them drawn a little... mmh... longer, I guess we can call it? It's hard to really use the right size terms for eyes because the directions are inverted. D: But other than that, yes, it's very close. *nod* His big ironskinned form always looked like it'd be fun to try and draw.

If you do look into the books, I wish you luck, and hope you find a good one. =D

Nice! You have a ton of skill. Now all you have to do is spread your art around the internet, and send your art to companies. Then you'll get paid for your gift.

im completely self taught(except for some critisism from my high school art teachers) and ive always thought about trying to become a character concept artist for a gaming company cause it combines my two favorite things gaming and art

And I learned mostly through practice and watching cartoons.
Sadly I didn't have the internet until a year and a half ago, so that left a lot of free time .

Yes I try and keep parctising but I'm not getting much better haha I think I'm actually getting worse lol. Have you got any ideas on how to get better other than just keep drawing???

EDIT: Oh yer also do you draw by like starting off just drawing circles/squares etc. then adding on bits then you rub the circle out. If you dont know what I mean this is an example http://incomming.tripod.com/goku/goku.html
