I never joined a gym, entered one to exercise, or bought a gym membership.... but my mother did. She's asked me a few times to go with her but I declined because I hate the icky feeling of being sweaty, it disgusts me. I'm not remotely athletic or a physically active person. The most exercise I do/get is walking, some days more than others. I really should start working out though...I don't want to be in my early 30's and feel like an elderly man.

My current job actually affords me a free membership to like six local gyms, but I don't use any of them. I just do calisthenics. But I used to have a gym membership when I was trying to build up my upper body strength a few years ago. I don't think I'll get another membership because I do fine just running around town and doing pull ups on trees and what not.

I do have a gym membership. I used to just run because I love cross country running. But I never liked how thin and scrawny I was. So I started going to the weight room at my university because it was free. However, so many students were there all the time taking up all the equipment. I dealt with it though. However, my fiancee decided she wanted to get in better shape, and she didn't want to do it alone. We decided to get a membership at a gym that just got completely redone a couple blocks from our house. On days we do our separate things, she does things like elliptical machines while I weight lift. But every Monday, some Fridays, and one weekend days, we go to an hour long class that really works on aerobic weight routines. It has just become something we do together, so that is a bonus.

I've never had any type of gym membership, and neither has any of my family. My brothers never had one because they either work out by running, doing stretching exercises, and lifting weights in the backyard or are just simply lazy and don't want to work out at all. I'm sure my parents would like to get their hands on a gym membership, but they simply can't do it at their age right now (mid 50s). The most my dad can do in his current physical state is jog and ride his bike. My mom really can't exercise at all. She's had a couple of surgeries on her back over the past year. Getting up and moving around is more of a chore for her than it ever was. As for me, I guess you can say I'm lazy. SO lazy that I don't even bother finding a gym around here. I've been in a kind of depressing mood lately due to some personal issues, limiting the exercise that I actually did get to even lower numbers. I realize that I need to do something to fix that, but really all I've done was try to adopt my more active brothers' method of exercising, which I mentioned.

I have a simple philosophy regarding this.

I'm not a fan of gyms. I much prefer to go for runs and climb things all around the place instead. I can see the point of gyms, warm environment with people to potentially meet and such, but they just never appealed to me at all.

I don't have a gym membership, but I do take Muay Thai Kickboxing integrated with Krav Maga. One of the instructors once said something like-

"It is not a workout class. It is a training class. However if you train hard, then you will get in better shape."

So I have something like a gym membership, except better in my opinion.

I don't own a membership to a gym nor do my parents do. Probably because there isn't a public gym in my area

I don't have a need for a gym membership and my grandma doesn't have one.
we walk everywhere anyway so we get plenty of exercise without it.

I HAD a gym membership but then the guy in charge of everything lost my files so now it's useless. After that I decided to buy my own weights and just walk around the track that's right next to the gym.

Speaking of which after school is over I should probably start doing that again.

I have a gym membership. I try to go at least 2 times a week, although I should be going a lot more than that. Sometimes I just don't feel like working out after working all day.

I go every week to the gym (in Belgium). So I haven't really got a membership because it's more expensive than paying every week for a one-day pass.

I have a miniature gym in my garage. Obviously I don't have to pay anything, also after a workout session I find more times likely than not that I look pretty awful, I'm usually bright red & sweating. And don't forget, there's usually a few really hot chicks in the gym, so that would be kinda embarrassing, and YES! The gym is a great place to meet people, so don't count that one out. I've gone a few times recently just to use the cardio machines to basically just get attention & chat up a few babes.

It's a very common misconception though, that you need to just lift weights to keep fit. It's mainly about your diet, to be honest & cardio training. Other than that, if your a guy & you need a bit of confidence, the gym is a great place to visit 3 or 4 times a week. Because once you get "the body" your ego will skyrocket through the roof!! Like myself. So yeah basically I' recommend the gym to anyone. Oh yeah..My mum does it as well & all the men are chasing after her in my area, she's a pure man killer! So ladies take note.

I know my mom has a membership to the local gym, she goes like two or three times a week. I would go with her, but you have to be 18 or over to actually go in there for some reason. :/

Actually I found out a few days ago that my parents cut the gym membership. I think it's due to the fact that I don't go there often anyways and we already have enough to work out at home, I really don't care either way.

My parents have one. Everytime I ask my dad to workout he always asks why. When I told him it's so I can get stronger and in shape, he always says "Nothing, old fashioned push ups can't handle".
