Josph Vicent Paterno, affectionately known as JoePa, has died on January 22, 2012. His death has been attributed to his battle with lung cancer. Unfortunately, there appears to be debate about his legacy due to the sex-abuse case against former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. Link's below.

I think that whether his involvement in the Sandusky case will simply be by each person's way of looking at the big picture. Those who point to his silence will only see Joe's failure while other who look at his work for the Nittany Lions will still see him as a hero. Regardless, to me, this is all tragic.

I don't know anyone who'd think of him as a hero.  He failed and knew about abuse and said nothing.  He made a terrible decision and did not protect those children.  I will always think of him as not the coach of Penn State but a person who failed as a human being.
