Any extracurricular activities look good.  Sports are nice, especially if you win at state and national levels, and so are leadership positions in clubs and organizations.  Another very good one is community service.  See if you can find a club that does community service.  That's two good things in one.

Generally all this depends on the schools you apply to.  If you want to get into a very selective school, like Ivy League, you better have a very padded transcript as well as fabulous scores and GPA.  Other schools, like community colleges and smaller local universities, will accept practically all applicants, but having extras in your transcript helps with getting scholarships.

Colleges don't care about that sort of thing unless their motto is "only smart people allowed". You can pretty much get into any college with a GED and money. Lets face it, college is about money not about how good you are at something. What college you go to is irrelevant unless your looking to brag about your stay at Harvard in your resume. I would be more worried about your credit report and criminal record, those are what will haunt you.

As far as actually GETTING IN to college, Jigsaw is pretty much right. If you have a GED or high school diploma and money (student loans unless you are pretty wealthy), then you can get into almost anywhere. That is unless it is an Ivy League school where there is actually an interview process for admittance, but those are a small fraction of colleges. However, extra curricular activities might increase your chance at getting a scholarship if you plan on joining the activity in college, but only if you were exceptionally good at it. However, I disagree with Jigsaw that it doesn't matter where you go. A lot of colleges are specialized on their degrees. For example, the University I go do offers degrees in a variety of fields, but it is still known as a teacher's college because it has a great program for education majors. There are a lot of schools that put people who graduated from my college in higher consideration for hiring for a teaching position. So it can be beneficial to look for a college that has a good reputation in the field that you go into. It isn't necessary, but it can get you a foot up when you are job hunting.
