I find it pretty ridiculous that in my years of posting on Viz Boards... My greatest thread was a 77 reply "Ninjas Vs. Pirates" poll. I assume what I lack in posting is quality, and for that matter quantity as well. Rather than type some ground-breaking essay of which inspires many individuals to post an insane amount of replies to my threads, would it be more time-effective to continue creating such sub-par threads as "Ninjas Vs. Pirates" in order to increase my role here at Viz. I know in the past I made many people angry with my posts, and my threads lacked a level of individuality in the sense that I might as well have copied a Reddit post. Would it be better if I posted something interesting, in the sense that others might enjoy reading it, but not exactly post a response to, or just create threads such as "Ninjas Vs. Pirates" where an individual couldn't just sit back and go "Ah, I see what he did there." and instead be compelled to post some response such as "Oh my god dude, Ninjas all the way, Bro!" which wouldn't lead to quality, but rather quantity. What I'm trying to say is, should I be concerned with the number of replies I would get on a thread, or just keep making sub par opinion pieces that force people to think "Too Long: Didn't Read"

You really shouldn't be concerned with how many replies you get. Just throw out what's on your mind. This is a kids site after all. Most of my threads came off of my head and I posted them without regard to the replies I would get, and my Guess that Pokemon thread has become really popular. It's all just for fun, really.

shredknives : I honestly prefer the ones that other users tend to stay away from. The kind of threads that will end up with only a couple users in a discussion that may wind up building an actual friendship or a habit of posting in each other's threads because they recognize the user from other enjoyable conversations.

In fact, when I search the new posts section, I look at the number of posts in a thread before I even bother looking at the title. Anything with over 30 posts gets passed right over, unless it's a slow day and I've already seen all the others.

I don't entirely see the point in putting time and effort into creating a gigantic post just to have the only response to it be from Davideo7 saying "Closed"

To be honest you could make the most thought provoking thread ever, and people might not want to respond to it if they think it's a complicated subject matter. Truth is that a lot of the people whom post on this site are younger and might prefer to post about Pokemon, or some crap like that before they post about politics/world events etc

You are not the only person who is in that boat. Others likely feel the same way.Don't let that stop you from posting, originality helps give the board liveliness. It's just too bad that some threads that require a more serious, and thoughtful response get avoided or less responses whereas those that require a quicker and simpler reply get more, thus allowing for more posts. Don't let the amount of Viz or post count control / govern your time spent/ how your post in the forums. There are some who might say that a higher post count or amount of Viz has some merit, something of an accolade and might deem popularity on the board, but not for all of us. If that is whats helps make posting on here meaningful to you then that's your prerogative.

From me: here's to sharing those threads and ideas to the rest of us

That's definitely true. I think the reason they tend to avoid the more meaningful and thought provoking threads is not only because they are younger, I truly believe that many of them could hold their own in many meaningful discussions that could be held here, but also because of the way posting is rewarded. While it seems that posting more words will earn you more viz, it's not by much. Besides, most people can come across a large sum of Viz fairly easily by doing things other than posting or by making more smaller posts. The biggest thing is the recognition for having more posts. It seems that this leads some users to post more often in the kinds of threads that lead to back and forth posting in an attempt at racking up posts even quicker.

Though, to be fair, that's just my opinion. It's only based on my loose observations as a fairly inactive member.

Why does it matter what anyone else thinks of your threads? When I make a post, I don't sit around fretting over who has read it and what they'll think of it. I just post what's on my mind. You've got to remember, this is a forum. It is not your blog, your purpose here isn't to entertain me, nor is it to be entertained by me. We all came to these forums expecting to post what's on our minds, and to see what others have to think. But not to get 77 replies every time we post a thread. Just be yourself man, keep posting quality stuff, and eventually people will react. If they don't, then maybe you aren't posting the "quality" you think you are.

Lazlo Falconi :

I think your post is terrible. And I'm going to summon you to it so you are now aware of it.

(I'm actually kidding, I agree with what you said entirely, and think its the most well thought out answer/post on this page.)

Take a good look at the two posts legacyme3 has made in this thread. I think that shows a lot about how we go about posting on the board. Sometimes we are serious, other times sarcastic, and sometimes they cross paths. I will admit there are times when I feel disappointed to see one of my own threads fade into the pages where no one looks because no one looks, but I move on just by trying to look for more, both in aspects of quantity and quality, topics that are relevant. It does not matter whether the subject is something controversial or something stupid, I just want to contribute.
