Oh, yes. I had this one teacher that made us memorize a new poem once a week. Sometimes they were hard; sometimes they were easy. One of the ones that I remember best is "Excuses, Excuses, Excuses." OUtside of that teacher though, I had to memorize the preamble and some other stuff for my Government & Economics classes. And my other history classes.

Yes i had remember all the presidents than i had to remember all of the plays for our basketball team. I remembered the presidents but i couldn't remember our basketball play that i named diamond because we move in a diamond shape. The bad thing about is that we always scored off of that play. I think i should be a coach.

My teacher says that every single one in my class have to memorise a short story of the short story text book but it wasn't short at all it was like 10 page or more and if we can't memorise all of it we have to stand on top of the table and that kinda scary since my class has a fan and we're all pretty high and the fan is a bit low so think about it.

All I've ever had to memorize was a rather small part of Immanuel Kant's essay "Beantwortung der Frage: Was ist Aufklärung?" ("Answering the Question: What is Enlightenment?").
Was pretty easy though and I still can recite it, so I guess it worked?

I don't really see having to memorize poems and stuff as a good method to teach anything (except for vocabulary of course), though, all it does is add some stress to the student's free-time and there are much better, less time-consuming and more fun ways to teach stuff.

Yes, I've memorized lots of things for my school. Mostly short speechs or sections from books. I actually kind of like memorization. It is not very difficult for me, but doing a presentation can be a little nerve-racking.
