Billy, I fully agree. This game is okay as far as MMOs go. There's better, but if you like DC's superheros or just want to see what a console MMO is like, this is the better place to start. As much as I hate White Knight Chronicles(yes, I know it's a good game, but I cannot enjoy it), it feels more like the better series to check out for anyone curious about console MMOs. Actually, Phantasy Star Online has tons of private servers to this day. The original Phantasy Star Online servers and the pay to play is dead, but it seems more worth while.
That said, I gave up on this game because I knew I was losing interest in it. The cities are a wonderful thing to look at, but the kill stealing hurts the game for me. I'm extremely obsessive over levels of characters when I play an RPG in most cases, and the typical MMORPG style of leveling is not very good for me in the long run since I will grind mindlessly more than I will do quests.
The big reason I deleted it off my PS3's HDD is because it took too much space than it should. Over 16 Gigs of space that will just sit there more or less after a month is obviously going to go if it is a downloaded game. I needed more space for Rage, Skyrim, and now Red Dead Redemption. I only had under 20 gigs before I got rid of DCU Online. I have about 32 or something now.
This game is good for what it is. It's nothing to write home about, but it is fun. It's for those who enjoy superheroes, and like DC heroes and villains. I didn't mind the limited customization because I knew what this game was meant for. It's also more of an action game at heart, which is fine by me. I like action games.
The thing is, I prefer how Rusty Hearts goes about being an action game. I simply prefer Devil May Cry style action games if I can find them, though. Those kinds are just practically made for me. I don't mind beat 'em ups, as one of my favorite 16 bit game series that isn't Phantasy Star is Goldenaxe, but those are also a bit slow, which is something that I like due to being so easy to make nervous.
Overall, don't let the bad community get in the way if you are able to handle it. It's a fun game, but just make sure you have enough space and don't tend to play giant games that are single player. Also, don't play on an SDTV. It isn't much fun if you can't tell the person to lay off, and find something else to kill. I, sadly, am stuck with an SDTV until Christmas. I do plan to try out one of the other free MMORPGs that are superhero themed, so if anyone wants to be friends with me on one, PM me once I say which one in my signature.
