So for the past 3 or 4 generations my family has never gotten lice even with how poor my generation was.  For some odd reason there has been a huge lice infection in many school districts (I do not have exact district names).  For instance the school my nice goes to had an outbreak, the school the babysitter's grandsons go to had an out break, and my little sister's school had an outbreak this monday.  My little sister was sent home monday for having lice.  We had to shampoo everyone down with RID anti lice shampoo kit.  Then we had to strip down all the bedding and spray all the furniture and pillows with RID anti lice spray.  On top of that all stuffed animals had to be put in garbage bags and must stay in them for 4 weeks to become clean of infection.  I also had to do a deep steam clean of all the rugs and floors.  On top of all that we had to rewash all the linnens and cloths in the house that were not in dressers or closets.


We are still doing laundry but that is known to take a few weeks.  All the infected laundry are in garbage bags so the lice can't spread.


Now my question is has anyone had to go through this?

I have only had head lice when i was like,6.
Kids here dont really get it anymore,most have been killed off due to new treatments against them.i lol'd when i heard they were becoming an endangered species.who cares,they suck.

I don't think Miami-Dade ever had a lice outbreak. Not while I've lived here, at least. So, no, I've never had something like this.

I have never gotten lice, even though there was an outbreak of it at my old school. But i think that was like K-3, so the older kids didn't have to worry about it much, since we never really were in contact with kindergardeners, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd graders.

I have never heard of any lice outbreaks in my area, but then again I was homeschooled meaning I was not in contact with large groups as often as others. My family and I has had to treat ourselves and the beds for lice twice. I remember the first time I had some sort of shampoo in my hair and had to lay still in the bathtub with a damp washcloth over my eyes for protection. I do remember on our second episode that we had to toss all the pillows into trash bags and leave them in the attic for a while. I do not think we had to do a thorough cleaning of the furniture and carpet like you did, Requiem.

Yeah my elementary school had an outbreak / scare. Only few got them, I myself never have. Sounds like a real pain having to clean and get rid of them once in the house.

I was lucky not to get it. There was an outbreak in my elementary school, and my older brother got it. I still don't know how I didn't get it, because my brother and I were around each other all the time at that age. He was so itchy, I do not envy him on that aspect.

RequiemHaunt : I must admit, I disagree. I have a flea infestation right now and it really really stinks. But anyway, I have had lice as well when I was in 1st or 2nd grade and than some a couple years later. They really suck and my head was always driving me nuts. I think I had to get the old mayonnaise head treatment along with a few special shampoo treatments. I think It only lasted a few days.

Hoochman :   Well with fleas all we have to do is put medicine on our cats and dogs and the problem is solved.  With lice it's a huge house hold clean down plus shampooinig the whole family.  So I feel lice is more of a nuicenss.

I've never gotten lice before, but it sounds like a ton of work. =/

I remember in elementary school, there were all these fears of a lice outbreak, but none of them actually happened. I guess we were just lucky in that respect.

I remember getting head lice when I was in grade school, but I don't remember the cleaning being that much of a hassle since I mostly kept to my room anyway, so only my stuff needed cleaning. Later my ex had a lice outbreak in his house (we think... not totally sure since his dad was a hypochondriac) so we had to do the whole special shampoo and wash, and put plastic liners on beds... it wasn't fun.

Elara :    Well my step mom and babysitters are mega hypocondriacs so this is the full list of what I had to do to make everyone happy.

Shampoo treatment
clean all the beddings
spray all the furniture with the raid anti lice spray
spray all the pillows
bag all stuffed animals and dolls into garbage bags and keep them in there for 4 weeks
clean out and spray the two cars
clean every single laundry that was not in a dresser or closset.
bleach all bleachable surfaces
and shampoo again this week


Weee at least all of that is over.....

Great  a thread about lice! for 2 yrs I had been bald My head was free from getting head lice ,buying hair products going to the barbershop, shampoos and hair falling lose in to my food.I grew my head back just for The Varrios gang member won't confuse me with one of them now seeing this awful thread about head lice I'm going straight back to shaving my head bald screw this!

I got lice once when I was younger. But I generally take great care of my hair and take precautions.

I haven't had lice since I was young.
