Aliens V.S Predator X-Box 360 review
AvP ( Aliens V.S Predator) came out this last February, by Rebellion Developments and published by the Japanese company Sega. In this game you get to play as all three species. The Marines as a rookie or Private, The Alien as a test subject, and finally The Predator as a young hunter. Some say that the story line of AvP is the same as the computer version that was made in 1998. However, I do not think this is the case. I use to play that version all the time. I still remember how the Marines story line started. Alarms blaring and the Sergeant going, “Wake up Private were in a whole lot of s***!”
This game starts off with a Predators ship shooting down a Marines space station. With them having to emergency land were they then get ambushed by Xenomporphs. Your character, however, is passed out and doesn’t wake up until most of the squad is either dead or has moved on in the colony. The game play for the Marine is a standard game type for a first person shooter. So anyone who is familiar with the game play of a first person shooter like “Halo” or “Call of Duty” can pick up a controller and be comfortable with the game play. The Aliens story line starts off as you being inside a persons chest, and the Predators story line starts off as you being at “The Proving Grounds” where you test yourself against the Xenomorphs.
The Alien game play is a little tricky with all the wall climbing, leaping, and then trying to stay in the dark areas of the map. However, it is still pretty easy to control and maneuver your character. The pretty cool part is the finishing moves that you can do to either The Marines or The Predators. My favorite part was biting off the heads of The Marines. Since when you do that you gain life for each head you bite off.
The Predator uses almost the same controls as The Marine. However, The Predator is more of a stealth character and is better to use its cloak then it is to just run and gun. The best part of being The Predator is again like The Alien the finishing moves.
The Story-line: I give the rating of 8 out of 10 Rebellion wanted to make it as close to the original as possible and they did a good job. All three characters meet somewhere in the game which was cool to a point. I was just left wanting more in the end.
Game Play: I give a rating of 8.5 Rebellion and Sega did a good job combining the three different species into this game. Learning how to control the other species was not hard to do. However, the online game play was something to desire but I will get to that later.
Graphic: I give the rating of 8.0. The graphic were good something that you would see in a “Halo” or even a “Call of Duty” type game. The game ran smoothly, and the detail of the characters was really good. (Sorry, don’t know much on graphics so my opinion on this is vague to the lest.)
Game Replay Value: I give this a rating of 6.0 You can replay the game as a different specie, or you can give the online play a shot. However, the online game play really sucks balls, to put it bluntly. There is no point in being a Marine online as well as an Alien. Everyone wants to be a Predator and even being a Predator sucks. With the online game you have to look all over the map to fine good weapons you can’t choose your weapon. As a Marine you start with a pea shooter (pistol) Aliens don’t have weapons but the health is lowered so that your easy to kill. The Predator starts out with a cloak and your razor claw. The Disc for the Predator is near impossible to get on some maps, and the spear is hard to hit anyone with because of the weird zoom in that it does online. The shoulder cannon is put into Third person view so it is just as hard to hit anyone with that. All in all the online play takes a lot of time to get use to as it is different then the actually game play.
Over All Rating: I give this game a 7.5 if it wasn’t for the poor online gaming part of the game I would rate this a whole lot higher. The online part of the game really kills the game. However, everything else about the game is great. This is defiantly a under rated single player game.
