SNSS2---------------------
I walked into the game store and had $30 in my wallet. Game Boy Advance games are the ones I usually go after first, seeing as I can get 4 or 5 at a time, even if there are only 2 out of the 4 or 5 games that are good. I checked the used games shelf and a game familiar to me was lonely on the bottom of the stack. Summon Night: SwordCraft Story 2 was a game I originally got April 2007 during the vacation, but I traded it in a while back. I loved it but I needed to trade it in for the Pokemon Diamond I reserved (low on cash). After buying this, I was ecstatic because the graphics were simply astounding for a little cartridge. Without further ado, here's the review!
Graphics:
It stands out, and each character sprite, monster, and environment seem to be full of life. The graphics fit well with the innocence of the game's world, and when the game's tense, the graphics also follow the mood. This is a plus. however, I have to say, the "pallet-swap" monsters that are a different color therefore a "different monster" on the bestiary is getting annoying. Other than that, it's easy on the eyes.
Music:
Unlike most RPGs, the music really doesn't get insanely repetitive, as each individual area (usually) has its own individual song. The battle music is a little catchy as well. Nothing worthy of winning awards, but still better than your standard RPG music.
Game play:
This is where the game shines. For an RPG, there's definitely more to do than usual. Firstly, you can create and collect 200 weapons (40 swords, 40 fighter gloves (knuckles), 40 spears, 40 drills, and 40 axes.) On top of that, you can choose a "guardian" which also adds a slight virtual pet part in the mix, and then you can participate in a fishing minigame. In the fishing minigame, you can catch fish to earn in-game points which can be saved up to by weapon shapestones, weapon materials, and items! Then there are small side quests which keep you distracted and also allow you to get some good items if you participate in them.
Replay value:
After beating the game, there's a whole new part to play. It saves your data and then you can play against bosses that you've never seen before! There's tons more levels to go through, more monsters, and then there's all the collections to complete! (Magic spells for your guardian, weapons, items, and the bestiary!) It's really worth playing after finishing, this game's brimming with content.
