In Pallet town, the Xanadu nursery was not there in previous versions. You can get to it by using CUT. Oak has a backyard with a few Pokémon in it. Route 1 extends into a second route. There is a raining thunderstorm on route 2. It also rains when you are in battle. Misty is fishing on route 2. Ho-oh makes an appearance. The Pokémon League guard stands outside instead of in. There is a house in the north end of Viridian Forest. The layout of MT Moon has changed considerably. That blabbermouth who tells everyone how to win is gone from the gyms. That is good riddance! The hack programmer modified many other routes to mirror the Pokémon Television Anime story.

Storyline modifications

Oh, no! Something has gone very wrong in Pallet Town.

I am late for the selection of my starter Pokémon! Beginners who did not sleep through their alarm have already pocketed the turtle, salamander and dinosaur monsters. Not to worry. I get the cutest Pokémon from the first generation. I make sure to ask the assistant person for some Poke balls on my way out the door. Look out! There is a rival trainer staring me down at six O'clock. Wait, I have a type advantage. Sweet! I had to talk to my mommy before leaving town. She gave me some running sneakers and told to me change my underwear. Yeah right! I am a Pokémon trainer now. I do not have that kind of time. I am busy fending off random sparrows on Meta steroids at route 2. Somehow, I already have a Pokedex. After fending off a few scary birdies, I find a Misty-rious girl and upon talking to her find myself on a bicycle. She says to give it back, but somehow I cannot. I soldier on. I zap one more “Captain Jack” bird and then see a Ho-oh flap across the screen. There is a nice person waiting to take me to a Pokémon center so I can heal my new pocket monsters. Whew! I go back to the girl and she says it is okay that I took her bike. (Now, there is a great message about stealing.) She gives me an Old Rod after we battle.

I try to advance from Viridian and Officer Smarty Pants says I need ID. I head back to Pallet Town. I guess I forgot to ask the other aide for a Pokedex. I did not expect a trainer to appear a few steps after the Officer checked my Pokedex, so bear that surprise in mind. Jessie and James Team Rocket ambushed me in the forest ahead. They go down quicker than a taser victim. Bug Catcher Samurai waits by his house so I challenge him and win and get repel from him. There is a trainer with a bulbous dinosaur and a flaming salamander in the forest. He is tough to beat.

When I reach Pewter City, a man named Flint tells me the story of Gym Leader Brock's life and directs me to a place where I can get a power up for the gym battle. I go there and I receive a light ball from a chrome-domed dude. The plot point where the boy stops me from leaving town is gone. All the trainers from route 4 have vamoosed. Instead of all that, a Team Rocket Grunt simply bars my entrance to a closely placed Mount Moon. I get to check out Brock's house with 5/9ths of his siblings inside. The gym trainer that battles you before Brock is his brother. He uses the Pokémon Brock got after leaving Pewter in the Pokémon Television Anime. I guess that makes sense. After tearing Brock a new one, I talk to Flint again. Brock comes up behind me and talks to Flint as if I am not even there. Wait, hey! I thought they looked alike. Flint just revealed he is Brock’s papa. They disappear together. What is that yellow thing on the ground?

In MT. Moon, Seymour the scientist disturbs by a colony of bats. I rescue him and he hands me a moonstone. In the cave, I battle Jess, Jim and their little p**** cat again. (90 minutes into game at this point; maybe this is an easy game, but I am having fun!) A non-descript Rocket Grunt bribes me with a Technical Machine for Thief.  I eventually find Seymour frolicking with plump fairies in one section of the cave.

Upon entering Cerulean City limits, I have a nice battle with my rival. There is a Hidden Village just west of Cerulean so I jump off the bridge and get to it. I just realized there are no trainers on the bridge. I cannot win a nugget. At every turn, Pokémon breeders battle me in the Hidden Village. The last breeder just gives me a Pokémon with a green bulb on its back. I guess I am ready to take on Cerulean gym. Before starting on the trainers inside the gym, I must beat the red head one outside. The gym itself is set up like a swimming pool. I face all three of Misty's sisters before battling her.

That is as far as I have gotten so far. I am sure there are many more changes to the story after this. This is quite an exciting adventure.

Difficulties

The prices at the Poke marts are outrageous. That makes it twice as hard to raise money for the necessity of Poke balls. Many antidotes are a good idea for Viridian Forest. Keep in mind that as you advance you may not be able to get back as easily as you left.

Depth

I can tell the hacker went to great trouble to get every single plot point right and put the same Pokémon Ash Ketchum encounters where he found them in the show. Ash does not catch many Pokémon in the first season, but I can catch as many as I please.

Addictive Qualities

I will likely play many times. The story and surprises waiting for me are sure to delight all Pokémon fans. Ash's Quest is bound to be a very popular version and a big credit to this site.
