I see that many speak of soul and spirit,and say it's the same thing.But I see that is not so.
    I think I see that the soul is still in evolution do,up to become a spirit,I see that the soul needs the vehicle,'body',to acquire experience that will go in life,the body dies,our soul becomes spirit,and brought us everything we learned,what we feel,happiness,sadness,love,passion,fears,rages,hate,and others.This will depend on what happened in life.
    Do not know where the spirit goes,but I know he is not going to another world,it is in the world where he lived and was born.Talk of reincarnation,but do not know much about it.
    Well this is only my opinion,and what I understand,I do not believe in gods nor demons,but I believe in spirits.

Well, this is what I see. I'm an atheist as well. I don't believe in god, demons and spirits, yet I feel there's a higher force and I want to believe, but if you believe in spirits. You believe in god and demons since they are a form of spirits. Hence the Holy Spirit. "Jesus"

   Natas,who created the gods and demons was the human being,away to get to brainwash people,to weaken our bodies,control our minds,and infect our souls.
    Look at how many religions have in the world,and the violence did not spare anything in the world.

That's human nature what causes the brainwashing, weaken our body and mind. An attempt to break our will. The gods only watches over us so to speak. They have no physical contact with us. So in we don't know if the gods, demons or spirits really exist or not. I'm the type that I'll believe it when I see it.

You have difficulty understanding about the emergence of life.
I see do the Big Bang,is only a theory,as well as the religions,for example,back when there was no science,all looked for an explanation,the phenomena occur in nature,if lightning strikes was that the gods were angry,but to science,is the meeting of warm air with cold,atoms and the particles,collide and release energy that causes the phenomenon of thunder and lightning.

Your thoughts are quite interesting evil/live, and sound similar to my own in some ways. I have belief in reincarnation, and that each life is a lesson so that our spirits can fully develop.

Natas : I think you'd be considered an agnostic more than an atheist if you do think there is a higher power out there.

Also, you can believe in spirits and not divine beings.

Elara : Well, I can't argue with that. I am just that type of person. I mean, yes, I do want to believe, but I see no proof. If he does exist and when my time is up. I'll pay for my sins.

I do believe in God and Jesus, so I tend to believe the soul and the Spirit are two separate things. For me the soul is what will go to heaven or hell once you die, and the Spirit is the Holy Spirit which is God in us.

Natas : That kind of defeats the purpose. I'm sure most religious people will tell you that faith is one of the most important aspects if not the most important aspect of religion. If the existence was obvious, like gravity for example, then there would be no need for religion at all. The point is to escape this plane of existence in favor of perfection. That's the only thing that kept people going and still keeps many people going.

Well most ppl that have a religion goes to heaven as for atheist they either goes to hell or have to reincarnate in order to value the stake of religion.My theory is that some dies in the worst way will most likely be trapped and eager to find a way out most of them  that died are none religious people. But they won't be seen whenever they try as much as they can

I think religion inspires soul and spirit, because we cant take the idea we will disapear,that we are simply insignificant.all our choices hinge on our brain,that is what is regarded as a soul.

Natas : Not to pile on but I'm interested in why you pick "atheist" as your title.  Atheists completely reject both any god or deity and are skeptical of any sort of supernatural existence due to a lack of empirical evidence.  You think there's some sort of higher power and you want to believe.  I'm with Elara in that you aren't so much atheist as something else.  Why do you define yourself the way you do?


Also, to answer the question:  It depends.  I think spirit and soul are interchangeable for some people and completely different for others.  To me, spirit is a person's drive, determination, and enthusiasm to life.  Soul is their ability to play blues.

Natas : I don't think that a person who believes in supernatural beings necessarily believes in "God" .  I've noticed that since the term "God" is commonly used to describe a widely accepted higher being  many tend to disregard the fact that it is extremely vague. For the sake of this topic, let's assume we all believe in "God".  My "God" would  in no way, shape, or form be the same "God" you believe in even if we both went to the same church and devoted our time in the exact way. I say this because those who have a "personal relationship" with said being tend to do so at their convenience.

The reason why I say all this:

The same can be said among Atheists. If an individual believes in an "evil" force, The disbelief of a "God" doesn't rule out the belief of a nemesis such as Lucifer. The term "Atheist" (just like any other term) can be defined by that individual according to what is convenient. The reason being that there are many "sub definitions" to the term. A good example: AGNOSTIC.

I do not mean to offend any one, but I think this discussion is pointless. How can we debate if the soul and spirit are the separate things or not if we don't know if either one exists? I should point out that both of those terms were originally used when we knew very little about biology. We now have very in depth knowledge of how our bodies function , and there are no signs of either a spirit or a soul.

In my opinion, we might as well be debating if pixies and fairies are the same thing. There is just as much evidence showing they exist. If we knew that a soul/spirit existed, this wouldn't be debatable , right?

smotpoker86 : Well I concur because we cannot prove that it does not live inside a person's body because we still don't have proof that a souls does not exists, just because there are no signs does not mean it cant be real.

dekker101 : You are right, the lack of evidence doesn't mean a soul does not exist.  No evidence simply suggests that it doesn't exist. Who knows, maybe one day we will discover a soul. Until that time we shouldn't discuss it like it definitely exists and should look for evidence of a soul/spirit.

   Many do not speak of this subject,because it is complicated.
   You wrote that we have much in depth knowledge of how our body works,if you noticed or not already
know,there is a spiritual science.
   Can also say that the spiritual energy is Aura,Reiki,Qi,Chi.and others.
   You can tell it"s a useless discussion,but seeks answers to this issue,dropped because it is a complicated subject!

evil/live : Of course you didn't mention faries, I did. Because as far as I am aware we know just about them as we do souls and spirits.  It was probably a poor choice of words on my part to call this thread pointless, but I still feel that people shouldn't talk about things like they deffinetly exist if we do not know if they exist or not. What I mean is when claims are made like "Do not know where the spirit goes,but I know he is not going to another world" than I expect at least some sort of evidence to back it up.

The closest I can come in terms of coupling a scientific fact with soul/spirit/energy claims are the electromagnetic field and electricity we all have in our bodies. For instance the magnetic field could be responsible for Reiki healings. I remember watching a show that said it is our magnetic fields that tip off our brains when we get the 'some body is watching me' sensation. It has been likened to a sixth sense. We are no where near able to confirm that a transcendent soul exists, that of course doesn't mean it can't or does not exist, it just means we shouldn't make claims like it does.
