My sister is going to stay with us for a few days. When I heard that I was glad, because, since she got married, she sleep in our house only once every year, when her husband is going to visit his parents. But this year she brought together her little daughter, and they like chilling out in my room with me, almost all day. The problem is that she can't stand the typing sound I'm making for hours She told me, in a polite way, that I hit them too much and this noise is a bit annoying, especially during nights. I try not to hit the buttons too much, but it can't be helped, because if I do so, my typing rate goes too slow, and I'm used to type fast

Probably this problem will be over in a couple of days, when she'll be back to her house, but till then, can anybody give me some tips or suggestions? Because I don't want to reduce the time I'm spending on vizzed or on my laptop, in general, even if it's just for a few days D:

Hmm, that sounds annoying to have to accommodate to. I dunno, try putting a blanket over your hands while typing lol.

I don't know how well it would work, but if you know the keyboard well enough then maybe putting a towel on it would muffle the sound of the keys while you are typing. Just a thought.

I've found that if it is your fingers and not the keyboard then thin gloves usually do the trick. They seem to block out most of the sound when I use them to type.

Well, I did have complaints about my loud typing from my parents too, and all I can say... Type slowly to lessen the noise, but that isn't what you wanted. I just checked Google, and here's what someone said, and I think it sounds like a good idea.

"You could take out every key and lay down some sort of sheet (felt, fabric, to muffle sound) and cut out holes for where the keys have to go, then just lay it in and replace the keys. Show type with almost no sound. You could reverse this and put the fabric on the bottom (glue maybe) of each key, leaving a hole to reconnect it to the board of course.

Not sure how effectively these would work, just thought of it then to be honest. Remember to take note of where each key is so you know where to replace them. Mixed keys can be very agitating.

I just type slowly, and place my finger on top of each key before pushing it down to place each letter. This way, your fingers aren't slamming against the keys (creating extra sound) and you can lower the keys slowly, and therefore, gently and quietly. I do this when parents are asleep and I have to use the main computer. Works a charm. But if you want to type very quickly, try the above method (maybe with a cheap, second hand or unwanted keyboard first to verify if it actually works)."

Keep in mind that my keyboard is a bit different than the one you guys use, because I have to alternate between to different alphabetical systems (the English one and the Greek one). If I take out every button it would be a pain to remember where each one goes
The blanket or towel trick sounds good, but I think it's mostly because of my fingers( they're too violent), so I'll probably use gloves tonight Black leather gloves, like the one thieves use xD

Good thing is that she told me, she is going to leave in 2 days. So, I guess the gloves or the blanket trick might be a good solution for the next 2 days

Thank you for your tips guys and snow, thank you for searching solutions about my problem. I really appreciate it

try to lower the angle of your hands.

I find that having your hands closer to the keyboard make it a little less demanding on your fingers and they make less noise.

Aside from that, there's always the option to do the pick typing, where you use one finger to do almost all the typing. I use this actually, I type almost all my posts on here using only my left index, and right index and middle fingers.

legacyme3 : I've been training for years to I'll be able to use almost all my fingers while typing (that's what my tutor asked me to learn), now it's hard to change my typing style again

I guess I can be patient, use gloves, try to have my hands even closer to the keyboard and not be on my laptop too much for the next 2 days. Thanks for tip, legacy

I have also noticed that some keyboards are just noisier than others... though you said that you have a laptop so I don't really know how noisy they can get. Mine can be a bit noisy... even when I slow down. It seems to be caused by the keys springing back up after I hit them. Hopefully the gloves work for you, but if not it might just be the keyboard.

I tried the gloves. It makes less noise, but it's still kinda loud, so probably the problem is 50% cause of my typing style and 50% cause of the laptop. Good thing is that tonight is going to be the last night (she'll leave next afternoon), so I'll be patient just for one more night

Thanks for the feedback, guys

noelia : That's weird. My laptop's keyboard is pretty silent, if you compare the sound to a regular PC keyboard. I know how you feel. I like to type fast too. If it really bothers her that much, she could go into another room. I mean, it's your house and room and she should respect that. Just saying.

SunflowerGaming : Compared to my PC keyboard, my laptop's keyboard makes less noise, but at 2AM, even the best keyboard sounds annoying I couldn't ask her to leave my room, she was like a guest for a few days, and I'm used to be very polite and lenient with guests, even if they make me upset, lol ^^;; Otherwise, if it was for a month or so, I wouldn't be so patient, lol

My sister was here for a few days, as I said on my first post. Now she's back to her house. So the problem is over for now, and I'll use this threads suggestions for the next summer, she'll stay with us again the next summer. But next time I'll be prepared
