Why Vista, Vista is literally the worst version of Windows out there. Why do you think Windows 7 came so quickly after?
For me probably Windows 7, it has great performance and a great look as well. I really like the Aero over the XP visual style.

I like Windows Vista too...it runs my laptop smoothly with little to no problems. I also like the "bling" sound it makes when starting up.

My computer is running XP right now. It's a good thing it is because it'd be crashing with 7.

I've used 7 on other computers. But I think XP is better overall because many of the "conveniences" in 7 are actually just distracting and too hard to use.

Windows 7 or XP.

Either or works really well honestly.

Someone70 :

Like what? I think 7's conveniences are hardly distracting.

Windows has kind of an odd place in my heart... I was fiercely loyal to Windows 3.1 back in the day. And when 95 came out, I said I'd never upgrade. I'd never use it. But then I got a computer that came with it and it was okay. Then Windows 98 came out and I fell in love. And for years I said Windows 98 was the best it could be. I still think back on it fondly because it seems the perfect mix of nostalgic DOS/3.11 days, mixed in with the newer Explorer style Windows.

I sort of skipped over Windows 2000. I never had a computer that used it, but whenever I'd use it on someone else' machine, I was generally impressed. WindowsME, on the other hand was a complete disaster. I hated every minute I used it. Everything about it was just so ugly, and the system was slow and unresponsive... Easily Microsoft's worst mistake. (I mean, at least they fixed Vista, right?)

When Windows XP came out I was mortified. I hopped on the "Windows Fischer Price Edition" bandwagon. As time wore on, I eventually got an XP box and promptly switched to the Classic theme. But then I started using the Silver theme, and eventually the regular one. When Royale came out, I eventually got it and was welcomed into the world of patching UXTheme.dll. Suddenly XP had gone from a system I thought was pretty okay to fantastic! Such beautiful window dressings were available, without the need for Stardock and it's bullmalarky.

Now, about the time Vista came out, I was actually starting to get excited by it. I mean, XP was great and all, but it had been out for nearly six years! But as it got closer to release I realized that Vista was about to be another ME... But I still went ahead and tried it out... Boy was I ever right. For those of you that like Vista, let me tell you, before SP1 came out it was a mess. Now, not so much, but it was too little, too late.

Luckily, Microsoft realized that what we wanted was a truly new version of Windows, not just a redecorating! And thus 7 was born! For Windows Vista, I wasn't a fan of Aero... It just didn't look right to me. The borders were too thick, the buttons were ugly, And I hated the start orb thing. But when 7 came out, with it's nifty-difty Superbar... Well things just didn't look right in Classic. So I made the switch and haven't regretted it yet! I loved every new feature that came out in Windows 7. Superbar is EASILY the best app launcher I've ever used (Though not really the best task switcher... But that's why the have Alt-Tab--and now Win-tab) and that thing where you drag a window to the side and it automatically resizes to half screen size, or maximizes when you drag it to the top is just peachy!

But there was still one problem... The Start Menu. Since Windows 95, I have always HATED the Start Menu. It seemed so counter-intuitive to put shortcuts in there when I could just have them on the desktop. Why would I click Start > Shutdown when I could just Win+U+U? Or Alt-F4. And with the plethora of launchers available, it was clear to me that plenty of others shared my disdain. So Microsoft hit one out of the ball park with Metro.

...That is, if you have a touch screen. I'm currently using Windows 8 and I gotta say, Metro is just TERRIBLE if you don't have a touch screen. Luckily it's not hard to turn off, but then what''s the point of using 8 over 7? (Actually, the window dressings are a bit prettier--but nevermind that)

So I guess right now my favorite is 7. But I think once Windows 8 is released and a bit more polished, I'll be enjoying that just as much, if not more.

Windows 98SE.

Don't you give me that look. I loved that old OS. A lot of fond memories attached to it...

That said; for a more modern actually usable OS, After using 7 for quite a while now.... I find that I still rather miss Windows XP. I was so much more familiar with it, I knew how to do all sorts of things in it, and it felt oh-so-natural to me.
Don't get me wrong; 7 is pretty great. It still just feels... Not sure how to put it. It's not as immediately intuitive for me.
If Just Cause 2, Shattered Horizon and Tribes: Ascend all worked in XP, and if I could make full use of more than 3gb of RAM in XP (let's just forget about XP 64-bit edition), I would probably actually switch back.
