Seeing as Vizzed is going insanely slow I had to write my latest review in a note pad and then transfer it over typing so please excuse any errors that there is as far as spelling or grammar. Today I am going to review one of my favorite games of all time: Donkey Kong Country. I am planning on doing a three part series where I review each game and tell you what I think over all about the series as a whole. I also might add a third in which I play Donkey Kong Country Returns and tell you my thoughts on that game. But without further delay we should get to the first game.

Donkey Kong Country was a game that was developed by Nintendo but really Rare made pretty much the whole game. At the time the game was made though the company was still Rare Ware and was one of Nintendo's second party developers. Now the company belongs to Microsoft and pretty much went to the crapper. But that is not important. All you need to know is when Rare was with Nintendo magic was made and this is one of the games full of magic.

Donkey Kong Country is the first game in a fairly long running series but this does not make it the best... The game does have it's flaws and some of them are fairly noticeable now. That is not too say the game has not aged well because ultimately it has! Though the graphics tend to glitch.

I do not know if this is how it was on the original system or if it was just the RGR bugging out but when I played the background and foreground would sometimes screw up, and switch. Though for the time the graphics are wonderful! The "sprites" for Donkey and Diddy look lively and cartoonish. I love the whole art style of the game. The dying animation and everything else really makes this game stand out. The reason I had "sprites" in quotes was because the game is in a pseudo 3D world. The team was experimenting with 3D and polygons and that is what most of the enemies and Donkey and Diddy are.

There are a few problems I have with the game though. One of them good and one of them bad, I know what you are thinking, "A good problem?" Yes a good problem, the game is very fun and addicting. I have played this game over and over again and still have a blast playing through it! The part that makes it fun is the fact that it is hard but not want-to-kill-yourself hard. The hardest level in my opinion is the mine carts. They add a little challenge pretty early in the game. Which is good! The second problem is not so good.

The problem that I do not like is more of a personal problem. I do not like the music that much just because it is a little too grindy on my ears. I usually like bits and bloops but this game just sounds too raw for me... Though I still do like the tunes just not how they are presented. You will probably like the sounds in the game. I do also think that the story could be buffed, but it is Donkey Kong so there is really no complaint. Just because the only story is Donkey Kong's bananas are gone. Big woop.

I would say that anyone should play this game that likes platformers it is something a bit out of the ordinary yet still loads of fun. I give this game a 9.6 out of ten.

DKC is a great classic for the snes...probably the second most famous game released for the SNES, I own it...but for the Gameboy, so its just the remake. Still, I have played it and I like it a lot. Great game.

DKC series, Super Metroid, and a few others made the SNES a hit. I played this as a kid, and still have the originals sealed away.
