I have not heard of this at all.
"A gunman dressed as a policeman went on a shooting rampage there, leaving at least 85 confirmed dead and many wounded of the roughly 600 people who'd been attending the camp" All I have to say is DAMMM he must have been packing some major heat. Wonder how much ammo and what kind of guns he used. That is the sort of damage you could do with something like an M60 or military issued machine gun. That is a big body count rampage for 1 man. Most I've seen here in USA was around 30... but he also injured 600 others. Good reason to stay away from politics its a nasty game with nutjobs. And more reason not to trust people in uniform, if it were an actual cop that would be even a bit more disturbing. Still you never know who someone truly is whether in uniform or in politics. I suggest people stay away from mass gatherings those are prime targets for attacks such as this. Speaking of policemen he is not the only one who went on a rampage, several of them here in my area have gone on rampages recently and killed innocent people using excessive force but no where close to the damage of this story you posted. |

Yeah, I heard about this. That bombing and the killings on that island. It's truly sad, but from what I've heard, they arrested the suspect. MAkes me wish the world can get along with each other. =/

This story disgusts me, I can't understand how some one can bomb a building and shoot so many innocent people. What kind of mental issues do you need to pull something like this off? I hope they have the death penalty in Norway.
JigSaw : I don't think he injured 600 people, there was only 600 people on the island and most of them were not injured. Unless you meant the American who killed 30 people, but if that is the case just ignore how pointless this is . |

geeogree : in britain they had some pretty extreme front cover pictures.
This is highly unusual in britain, shooting sprees rarely happen and given the scale of death this was headline news in europe. JigSaw : all i know in terms of guns he had some sort of machine gun.a survivour said they played dead but he pulled out a shotgun and shot the bodys in the head at point blank range. Also he made it easy for himself choosing an island.he called them over which is why he was dressed as a cop and when they got close he opened up at them.he also picked off people trying to swim to safety. News,he just admited his actions were "atrocious but necessary." He planned for years and kept a diary up to the end. "unless he wants a complete and certain takeover of marxist islamists in europe.god must grant him success in awakining europe.(actualy words in a diary entry) |

smotpoker86 : That is what happens when you stay up all night
Your right I misread it... well then that doesn't seem as bad as I originally thought so that is good lol. I almost thought he was rambo for a second.
I was referring to Virginia Tech guy / Fort Hood (was that the name of it) idk... pretty sure it was around 30 kills for both of those give or take a few. Anyway, it could have been much worse I guess they found a bunch of fertilizer somewhere near the attacks and that can be used for home made explosives. thenumberone: Thanks for the info, very interesting. Yeah, I heard about this yesterday sometime, its pretty horrific what happened on that little isle, and then the bomb attacks.
Some of the reporters were calling it "The Norway 9/11" |

The story about Norway saddens me more than 9/11 did... Because of this http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1218276/Norway-crowned-best-place-world-live--UK-trails-21st-place.html
Norway was like a Utopia of perfection. It's depressing to learn that somebody might want to harm them. |

I didn't hear about this until now. That's terrible. I'd hate to be at a camping trip like that and run into some psycho with a gun.

Shaedo K : yeah, but the world works that way.... whoever is on top in any way becomes a target.
d man: yeah, it's quite shocking how little attention things like this get in North America (assuming that's where you live ).

I heard about this, and apparently he was using rounds that basically disintegrated inside the body, causing the most possible damage to internal organs (as it was essentially exploding bullets). I offer my condolences to those who have lost people on this day, which is rightfully a dark day for the history of Norway.
I did some research on the attacks, and a lot of interesting information is on them, but is hard to decipher what is real of fictional, and a lot of it is buried under the Amy Winehouse story...I mean, apparently one singer dying from a cause that is her fault is worth infinitely more news than a mass murder that is almost beyond comprehension? |

America media outlets don't like reporting world news unless it involves war and terrorism (which they constantly shove down your throats on a daily basis). Plus this was in Norway and he did not have a rag on his head so it kind of goes against their agenda in targeting the al qaedas as the only terrorists.
Most terrorists work in uniform, that is probably his message to the world in my opinion. Sometimes you have to do evil things in order to change something, for better or worse. Either way, change has to come with violence there really is no other way to go about it in todays world because its the only way to be heard. If you do something really good chances of media reporting it are slim, but if you do something really bad they will be all over it like flies that is how it works they want shock value which = better ratings & more monies. |

Redrunelord : well rumours always fly, this is what is currently known:he lived with his mum until a few years ago and lived in a nice area.
He moved out and joined a far right politicalt group, and had contact with other groups such as the english defence league. He decided politicians had betrayed there country and cared only for self gain.he moved out 2 years ago and formulated a plan to attack the countrys rulers. He bought a farm as a front,so police wouldnt investigate the 6 tonnes of ammonia fertiliser he was buying. He kept a mataciulous diary that recorded his daily progress.on friday he wrote "this will probably be my last entry." he had no intention of escape.the police also found a 165 page document describing his motives. On his facebook he had interests as christianity, boody building, war games, hunting and for unknown reason stone mason. He planted the bomb in the norweigan capitols government district, which blew most of the windows a mile away. At this point they thought it was a gas leak until security footage showed him loitering outside. He told the guard incharge of the security of the island that he was investigating the island to ensure it had no bombs and the guard put him onto the ferry with his van(which wasnt even a police van)which was full of ammo and guns.he walked into the centre of the camp and said "you all come to me." once they were gathered around he opened his bags, pulled out the guns and screamed "you all must die" before opening fire. He spent the next hour and a half tracking survivours through the forests and picking off the people who jumped into the water.others hearing the gunfire saw his uniform and ran to him for safety, only to be shot down. Luckily a lot of tourist boats started picking up the people in the ocean and ferrying them to the next island. When the special forces finally arived he gave him self up as he had no more ammo.some witnesses claim he was laughing as he was shooting.some people only survived because they hid under the bodys of there dead friends. Oh and the reason he chose that camp is they were junior members of the ruling labour party. His neighbours said he wouldnt ever talk to them and he seemed a spoil mummys boy.he had a license for a pistol and a machine gun, which is his suspected weapons but the police havent disclosed that.he also had a shotgun to finish them off. And the special forces took so long to get there because there boat was leeking, they had to get another. Also about 5 islamic terror groups tried to claim responsibility. And i dont think any country in europe has the death penalty. The real slap in the face:under norweigan law his maximum possible sentence is 27 years. Thats not even a year for every 3 he killed,he'll get out of jail. |

thenumberone : I bet you he knew that he would get away with it in the end, based on current laws. Perhaps one of the changes this will prompt is a firmer grasp over penalties in Norway...but it is hard to judge now. I only wish this never had to happen...*shakes head sadly*

This is disgusting. What he did is unforgivable, and I am doubly outraged that terrorist groups tried to claim the credit. I mean, seriously?
I hope that he goes away for a lot longer than 27 years... maybe they will institute a life sentence just for him. In solitary. |

From what I have heard , the shooter expected not to come out of this event alive. He thought the police would kill him. Also when asked if he regretted any of his actions he said something along the lines of "I am sorry that this was necessary, but it was necessary"
I find it both disgusting and strangely funny that Islamic groups would try to take the blame. The killers motives were largely due to muslims migrating to Norway, and to see Islamic groups take the blame seems oddly funny ... Not that there is anything humourus about the attacks. I am also a little bit skeptic that they actually did try to take the blame, I didn't hear anything about this from my Canadian news sources. |

yeah ive heard of this its all over the news, there was also the story that came out of the daughter and mother who sent text's to each other the whole way through the event while the student was running away form the policeman and hearing his gun shots being fired, its just really puts the shooting into context for me each one of those that were killed had a family who were worrying about them, these were all innocents as well and like smotpoker said, the fact that he feels justified in doing this sickens me.
Another news article i read said that he stated he was a firm nationalist but it turns out he was an extreme rightist like the neo-nazis and that the government is actually expecting more ad racism increases in times of recession, theres more info here but its all a worrying state of affairs. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-14260195 |

smotpoker86 : believe me,it was in all the papers here, muslim extremists definately tried to claim credit.and what you said also occured to me.the word youre looking for is ironic.
POKeMAD : The far right are still nationalist, usually there main policy is to enforce the protection of there historic identity.in reality that means dispose of non whites. |

I do not like this one bit. I think that it is awful that someone could just open fire on to a whole bunch of kids. The worst part is he was dressed like a police officer. I think that is really scary.
