Yesterday mom bought me a Htc wildfire s, as a gift for my graduation from university. The truth is I haven't changed my cellphone for 6 years (maybe 7), and again that time my cellphone was a gift from her. It still works properly, but it's not as flashy as a smartphone (it's not that I care if it's flashy or not, I mostly want it to be able to "get the job done",lol).

Anyway, from what I've said you can assume that I'm a n00b as long as smartphones, and I wanted to ask if someone has any tips/suggestions on how to take care of it (eg. how to clean the screen properly, what applications I must download etc).

So any advices/suggestions/tips will be very appreciated

A very nice looking phone, I must say
I know that Otterboxes are nice cases, in case you drop your phone, but I don't know if they make them for your model
They also make plastic screen protectors for just about every phone model out there.

Now assuming it's an Android powered phone...as most HTC phones are... Here are a few apps.

Advanced Task Killer free - this will terminate all running applications, saving battery life. It has different settings, and manually app kill.

Lookout Mobile Security - a security app for your phone, protects from viruses, etc. Can also help you locate your phone if you lose it

If you're gonna use it for multi-media get the Real Player app. Best media player on the market. It will also let you download stuff too.

Colornote - one of my favorite, and very easy to use notes editor, also has a checklist AND a homescreen widget.

I could go on forever....lol. If you need a certain app, find me, I'll get you the right one haha.

What came pre loaded on the phone? I just want to know so I can tell you what to download... also is the phone running on Android? And if so what version is it running off of?

As far as cleaning I don't know.

pi0x : This list is really helpful Thanks! Yeah, it looks so lovely Mom sure knows my taste so well, lol

I've got 2 cases by now,lol One that keeps the phone safe, if you drop it (but it hasn't a plastic screen protector for scratches etc, so I got a bag like case too and I use both (yeah I'm over protective about it,lol).

I've already downloaded the advanced task killer, because the battery was empty very soon, and also a battery booster program (which can also be used as file manager program, when I couldn't delete some files), so now thanks to them, it lasts way longer
As for antivirus, I've downloaded AVG free, it has a phone locator too, I think. Is it good enough as an antivirus?
I didn't know real player had a version for smartphones too I was using this only for my laptop, probably I'll download realplayer for my phone too It's a cool program!
How should I clean its screen? It has many fingerprints by now It's not that it's a big deal, I'm just wondering. Is it ok to use the same special wipes, that I use on my LCD TV?

If I have any questions, I'll know whom to ask. Thanks you very much

billythekidmonster : It has like 40 applications (maps, Twitter, Facebook etc) that I'm not going to use all of them (maybe I'll erase some of them in the future, when I need free space). It didn't have an msn app, so I'm using msn mercury now, it's pretty handy As for those kind of apps I think I'm ok. When I made this thread, I mostly wanted to find out more about security programs and battery save programs, but during last days I've found most of them. It's running Android, version 2.3,  it has a 512 MB RAM, and a Single core 600 MH processor.
LOL@ the cleaning comment, it's ok. I'll try to find out myself

noelia : You could either use one of those eye glass cleaning cloths, or one of those special LCD cloths you were talking about. Pretty much, any type of soft cloth will clean it.

noelia : Ha ha ha ok, I do not know any great apps for "Gingerbread" as some call the 2.3. Though I would say you do not need much security just because android does a good job of keeping your stuff locked up nice and tight.

The new Android version, 3.0, is called Honeycomb. It's currently only for tablets though.

OS's based on Linux kernels always have strange names for different versions. Ubuntu 11.04, which is what I run, is called Natty Narwhal. lol.

I didn't know that they used to name versions like this

It's a pity that there is not a 3.0 version for smartphones yet =/
