It lets me create them but when a user goes and chooses one, it gives them an error and they can't actually select a premade post layout.

Premade layouts now works, there's currently only 2 to select from, both designed and coded by me. One of them costs viz, the other free, so check them out. You can also select one to view it without it changing your current layout, just don't submit changes when you've selected a layout.
