So, most of you don't know what I do for work (which is fine) but today I didn't have a very good day.

I was meeting with the vice-president of a small directional drilling company (for more info on directional drilling ask me in my ask anything thread ) and he started grilling me on budget details on the project we were working on for them and I put my neck out and started talking and it turned out that the numbers I had in my head and the numbers he had been told by the president of the company I work for were different (mine were higher) and this guy started to get really upset. I was dumb enough to quote a number that was nearly double the amount that he understood the project was going to cost (the number I had was relative to our company completing most of the work on the project).

So, after being told that he was "effing" pissed off (edited for the kiddies ) and ranting on and on for about 10 minutes about the costs we finished the meeting and he basically told me that we've got to get our budget situation figured out before we do anything else on this project because we've got very different ideas of what it's going to cost. There is a lot more detail involving him being quite angry and upset with me that I won't get into.

So I left this guys office and basically ran as fast as I could down to my car and left. It was probably the worst 30 minutes I've had since I started this job. I managed to get through it and the project has been salvaged and we're going forward but it was pretty stressful. My boss sort of threw me under the bus when he talked to this guy later in the day saying that I'm a junior employee and that anything I said wouldn't stand. He also told this guy off a bit saying that he shouldn't have been trying to discuss budget issues with someone other than the president of our company.

It was a big learning experience and an extremely stressful one. I had that adreanaline shakeyness the rest of the day pretty much. Not a happy day for me. I survived but it could have gone a lot better.

And I didn't like at all the part where he said that you're a junior employee and that anything you said wouldn't stand. He should be more tactful Besides, sometimes even a "junior employee" may have seen things and have a point of view that an "experienced" one hasn't even thought of it.
I hope things will be ok soon.

noelia : I know what you mean, but he was basically saying that I'm not the decision maker about the project and so if I say something out of place with what they had already agreed to that doesn't change where the project stands currently.

it wasn't meant to be hurtful to me in any way but more to be honest about the situation.

I see. But I would feel a bit hurt, if he said that for me.
Anyway, is it better today? Or there is still this "weird-bad" aura at work? (this kind of aura is the worst, and when it lasts long it makes things very awkward)

I'm not at work yet actually...

and this incident wasn't an internal thing.... the VP that got all mad actually works for a different company and I was visiting their office.

I feel fine at my own office but I've got to go back to this other company today to finish off what I was unable to finish before. I'm not looking forward to it.

Aw sorry about that geeo sounds like you had a pretty rough day. Don't feel bad about what he said to you I think it would be best if you just let it go and forget about it. Just hope that the next day will be better.

Ouch, that sounds like a very bad day for you, Geeo! I don't think I've ever had a bad work experience like that.

the rest of my week has been better but I still feel off because of what happened. I think it's mostly that I'm over-tired right now and need a break for a bit. Thankfully I have a 4 day weekend coming up which is badly needed for me. Need to catch up on some sleep and not drive so much.

That break sounds good. It also seem like you are a great employee, well except for being called a "junior employee" Catch up some rest. Have a little R&R. Sheesh and I thought I had it bad when I first went to work at Burger King. I remember the boss interviewed me. He told me I got the job and literally put the hat on me and pushed me in the back and said. "Get to work" I had no training at all and he expected me to know everything. I wind up screwing up the orders. Of course he got mad at me, but thankfully one of the veteran employees there took me under his wings and showed me the ropes.

I bet you can't wait to have your 4 days off huh? Unless I'm replying to this thread a little to late. XD If that's the case. Sorry. Lol.

worst thing that ever happened to me it that I got hit with a horse shoe dont ask very long and werid story

Natas : I am looking forward to my 2 (extra) days off.... I'm also considering a new job. Not that this job has been bad or anything but it's not what I originally wanted to do as a career and I'd still like to pursue my original career path. I feel like I'm going in the opposite direction here as I was wanting to go. Hopefully I can find something sooner than later and get started on that so the transition is smooth....

Can't expect to have your dream career as soon as you step out of your mother's nest, but I have faith in you that you can go down the path of that career you've been wanting. I don't have the talent to go with my dream career, but it doesn't stop me from dreaming and even possibly trying. I'm sure you will do a fantastic job in getting what you are looking for.
