Can you spare a spare? Some cars no longer come with spare tires, standard
Do you think we should still get the option to get them for free without extra cost on cars that come with them?
Automakers are currently fixated on curbing weight and improving fuel economy. This trend has brought numerous changes to new cars, but one trend that’s raising eyebrows is the ditching of the spare tire.

Manufacturers are doing away with spare tires to reduce vehicle weight, improve gas mileage, and to shed a few dollars off their costs. To compensate for the lack of a spare tire, automakers are equipping more new cars with run-flat tires, or they’re including flat repair kits in the trunk. While this trend has its advantages, many car buyers are concerned by the spare’s absence.

Sports cars like many newer model cars, often come without spares. There's no room for a spare tire in a Corvette. But, the sports, and newer cars come with "run-flat" tires that are designed to allow the driver to travel a limited distance, even when the tire is deflated. Those tires are typically much more expensive to replace.
I honestly liked being able to fix my tire on the spot & go on my way, since I don't have run-flats. Instead of waiting for Onstar, and service.

That's kind of a setback, we are use to having spare tires coming with the car. Its going to be somewhat weird without it.

I'm not a fan of this change but I see why it's being done and give it 3-5 years and most people will have forgotten that they had a spare tire in their car Maybe 10 but still.... we'll get used to it.

This doesn't surprise me. The economy is so bad spare tires aren't free anymore....people will do anything to make an extra penny.

I think the idea is ridiculous but if we had better drivers there would be less tire accidents.

It is an interesting idea. I like the idea of not needing a spare tire, but only if the alternative is easy enough to work with. I mean this in several ways.

I do not like the idea of run-flt tires. They are more expensive, and they are not common at all right now.

If the flat repair kit requires a simple process, then I am willing to learn how to use it. But if not, then I would be willing to sacrifice one... two-tenths of a mile-per-gallon to keep a spare tire handy.

argg not a fan do you knwo how much fines for tyres are costs with these days i see thigns getting worse because of this more potential fines :/

Not very surprising in the first place. People these says will do anything to earn some money.
But hey, that's what happens.

I don't really care now, because I have an old 1996 Dodge Caravan. It has a spare under the car you can take out. I won't be getting a new one in probably a long time, even so, if we do get a new one, it will probably be old enough to have a spare.

Personally, I would rather have the spare tire there because it'd just make me feel safer if something were ever going to happen. Even with run-flat tires, I'd have to replace them for the extra cost x3.

That is pretty dumb because when me and my family go on vacations there is always a spare tire that is needed. I think that they need all of the things in there especially the spare tire.

I see this idea as becoming beneficial to having people be more cautious on the road with a new car, being that they will have to walk quite a distance if they are goofing off and pop a tire. I also think its beneficial to the society, being that the extra money spent on spare tires is hopefully going to something useful. I for one will probably have the lesser amount of trouble in this, being that I'd rather a motorcycle to drive around in
