So there I was right, walking through a shopping mall, and I had a sudden urge to go into EB Games, I only had 40 bucks, so I thought it would be pointless. As I turned from the Xbox section and looked accross the room to the PC section a game stuck out to me. On the cover was a red and yellow space marine. As I run to it, running over several old ladies with babies, I thought I wouldnt be able to afford it. But it was only AU$39.95. Now onto the review.

For those of you who know warhammer, its a very long game to setup, and play. Its usualy played on a table with players taking turns to individualy move each one of there units at a time. One way to describe it is LOOOoooonnngggg!

Warhammer DoW takes out this long process of setup/knock down into the PC Game world. The game is no longer turn based, but more RTS (Like age of empires).

Unlike other RTS games, you don't build units, you build squadrens. So I might build a squad of space marines (4x space marines). Then I can add space marines, upgrade weapons, create leaders assign heros to the squads, and many more.

Game play in battles seems to be very action packed, when 2 squads (or many more) all come together to fight. Normaly in RTS games, the unit you first attack is the first to die. In this, your units, attack their units so right from the start, the combat is like full out war (just ask if you dont get what I mean).

Sound 2.8 / Pi
The sounds in this game match the units/weapons right down to the tee. And thats pretty good seeing as warhammer doesn't normally have sounds. Even on low quality sounds (default) the sounds themselves are very clear, and very full on.

Graphics 2.9 / Pi
I've only got a 128mb Radeon graphics card installed, but it handles the game good on about the settings at medium. There are a few settings not on by default which you wont know about unless you go into the settings. One of these being a full 360 degree camera angle that can also zoom in and out. Very funky .

Game Play ? / Pi
I have only played about 3.14 times, so I cant give a full detailed description to game play. Its fast, action packed, all with a touch of stratagie thrown into the mix.

Multiplayer 1 / Pi
I've marked it down alot on multiplayer for 1 thing, which ill explain in just a minute (read WTF!! >> How Many Patches id You Say??? <<). Game can be played on 56k or Lan (like all games pretty much ). Not sure of server quality, but if you use Hamachi and just got LAN you should get a good server anyway .

WTF!! >> How Many Patches id You Say??? << -Pi / Pi
The patches for this game are retarded.
I update the game from 1.0 to 1.4 (all patches are around 30mb), try play online... New Patch out... update, try play online, new patch out... try play online.. Im like, this is retarded...

For some reason you cant patch from 1.0 to 1.51 (and for some reason 1.41 is the latest on their web page). You have to go from 1.0 to 1.4 to 1.41 to 1.5 to 1.51, on dialup that isnt very nice at 30mb a patch.

Overall I give the game a (3/4) * Pi (2.356 / 3.141). A good job on behalf of THQ.

Oh yeah, it got game of the year award in 05

I've seen the game played, I think there is another expansion out.

I think games and patches can get pretty freaking retarded at times.

Age of Empires is always good RTS

But how can you beat War III? Blizzard could have made another starcraft with a lot more units, but instead they focused on less, and more micro.

I myself own DoW 40k, and yes i do think the patches are often retarded. You would think thay would have fixed them before releasing the game.
